Week 10 notes

Undefeated is Better than 1 Loss

Ohio State thumped Wisconsin, Boston College lost to Florida State in an ugly fashion, but Kansas proved their worth, hammering Nebraska, 76-39, which propelled the Jayhawks past LSU and OKlahoma into the #2 slot behind the Buckeyes.

Now, the major polls and BCS may not think the Jayhawks are all that good, but let's just look at results. They are 9-0, as compared to Oklahoma's 8-1 record. Kansas beat Colorado in Colorado, while the Sooners one loss was at the Buffaloes.

LSU also has one loss, on the road, as does West Virginia. Oregon's lone defeat was at home.

Missouri's only loss was at Oklahoma and they play at Kansas on November 24. Should the Tigers defeat the Jayhawks, then Oklahoma would move into the number 3 slot behind LSU if LSU survives their remaining schedule and the SEC championship. Of course, this would solve nothing. There may be 6 or seven one-loss teams by the end of the regular season and conference championship play. Choosing one to play Ohio State (considering they beat Michigan in their season finale) is about as rational or scientific as pulling a name out of a hat. Besides, what if, like last season, Ohio State gets thumped by a one-loss team. How does that then affect the other one-loss teams? Maybe they should have been considered.

The need for a playoff system has never been greater, but this season is still up for grabs.
