Week 12 notes

Three Top Ten Teams Trampled

The 2007 college football season continues to be one of the most competitive in years. Last week, Oklahoma, Oregon and Clemson were all dismissed from the Top 10 and shuffled back to the lower rungs of the rankings. Kansas and LSU remained on top, though each of those schools have tough games ahead, with both possibly going to their respective conference chanpionship games.

Late season losses can hurt more than a team's ranking. In the cases of Oklahoma and Oregon especially, last week's defeats probably knocked them out of BCS bowls and into lesser bowl appearances.

The most fortuitous team on the planet is likely West Virginia, who can capture the Big East title this week, if they beat upstart Connecticut. Currently ranked #3 in the Downtown Magazine rankings, they may secure a national championship game spot should either Kansas or LSU stumble.
