Week 4 notes

Big 10 or not?

With Michigan holding their own at home against Penn State and Wisconsin escaping with a close call win at home over Iowa, the real power in the Big 10 conference is difficult to discern. It may actually be Ohio State, which has run off impressive wins over weaker opponents and is 4-0.

The Buckeyes open conference play with back-to-back road games at Minnesota and Purdue this weekend and next. If Ohio State is still undefeated then, they may begin to make noise as a serious BCS contender.

Louisville a defenseless casualty

The Louisville Cardinals were the latest Top 25 team to be victimized by no-defense disease, losing at Syracuse in a shocking 38-35 upset. After dropping their first real test to Kentucky a week earlier, an obviously-disconsolate Cardinal squad barely showed up at the Carrier Dome and were swamped by an aggressive Orange offense.

The second loss of the season probably eliminates Louisville from any BCS bowl consideration and puts the remainder of the season in serious jeopardy.
