Fearless Rick's College Football Week 6 Picks - Late Games

4:00 pm Arizona State (-8 1/2, 63) at Washington State - How good is 5-0 Arizona State? Well, they're allowing only 13 points per game (6th in the nation) and less than 100 yards rushing per outing. On offense, they're clicking at a rate of 39.4 points per game. The Cougars have a decent, young team, but no defense of which to speak. A statistical mismatch.

Prediction: Sun Devils 44 Cougars 17

6:00 pm Virginia Tech at Clemson (-5 1/2, 40 1/2) - Showdown in the ACC between two solid defensive units. Virginia Tech is allowing just 15 points per outing, while the Tigers are holding opponents to 17.4. Offensively, Clemson has a substantial edge, scoring 31.2 ppg to Tech's 22.6. With the home crowd and a Virginia Tech offense that sometimes cannot find any rhythm, it's no surprise that the Tigers are solid favorites. Don't be fooled by the line, V-Tech will be lucky to score at all.

Prediction: Tigers 24 Hokies 13

8:00 pm Ohio State (-7, 53) at Purdue - Ohio State has been steamrolling the competition like they are upset about losing the national championship last season. Maybe they are, especially the defensive players, many of whom were underclassmen last season. QB Todd Boeckman has been surprisingly good for the Buckeyes, and even though both teams are 5-0, Purdue's defensive flubs in the second half of nearly every game this season is a trend that's going to prove costly. The Buckeyes will look unbeatable after this, though they already have, allowing just 36 points through their first five games.

Prediction: Buckeyes 35 Boilermakers 16

8:00 pm Florida at LSU (-9, 49) - Florida's troubles are only beginning. After losing at home to Auburn - a team that's beaten them twice in the past two seasons - last week, they have to travel into the Bayou, and that's usually dangerous, even for Gators. The top-ranked Tiger defense (174.6 yards per game) is going to make Gator QB Tim Tebow wish he was still spelling Chris Leak by the time this one is over. Florida's flashy offense will be slammed around by LSU's talented, disciplined defense.

Prediction: Tigers 31 Gators 16

8:00 pm Cincinnati at Rutgers (-3 1/2, 52) - Rutgers suffered their first loss of the season last week, at home against Maryland, 34-24, in what was really their first real test. Now they begin conference play against a tough-as-nails Cincinnati squad that doesn't know what losing is. The Bearcats are 5-0 and have the nation's 4th best scoring defense (12.6 ppg) to complement an offense clicking for 46.4 points per game. Both teams are ranked, though Rutgers is ahead in most polls. That's all about to change. Head coach Brian Kelly (from the mighty Central Michigan Chippewas) took over the team just in time last season to beat Rutgers 30-11, win at Connecticut the next week and post a 27-24 win over Western Michigan in the International Bowl. That's an 8-game win streak and it's going to continue here.

Prediction: Bearcats 35 Scarlet Knights 21

9:15 Nebraska at Missouri (-7, 67) - Heading into the season, one would have never suspected that the "Huskers would be a touchdown underdog, but Nebraska has shown a troubling inability to stop any offense it sees while Missouri has rolled to a 4-0 record including the season opener over Illinois, 40-34. With Nebraska's defense allowing opposing rushers nearly 200 yards per game, Mizzou's Chase Daniel should have a field day, both running and throwing. He's already thrown for 13 TDs and run for one. Expect to see more option play from Missouri to exploit Nebraska's lack of speed on the perimeter.

Prediction: Tigers 45 Cornhuskers 31
