7:30 pm South Florida (-2 1/2, N/A) at Rutgers - Yes, the Scarlet Knights lost two straight games - to Maryland and Cincinnati - and South Florida beat West Virginia and crushed UCF last week. So, does South Florida deserve their top 3 ranking in the major polls? #2 in the BCS? Maybe. We're about to find out. In a season full of upsets, expect Rutgers to pull another one here. They actually should be favored since they are at home.
Prediction: Scarlet Knights 31 Bulls 27
Friday, October 19
8:00 pm Louisville (-3 1/2, 60) at Connecticut - Louisville righted their season to some degree, knocking off previously-undefeated Cincinnati last week. The Huskies were losing by a point at Virginia, meanwhile. Note that this line is very small, even for Louisville, meaning that UConn is on the cusp of being a Big East contender. They are 5-1 and the Cardinals are just 4-3, and their win at Cincy was close (28-24). Can they win on the road for the second straight week? Doubt it. UConn's defense is too good.
Prediction: Huskies 24 Cardinals 21
Saturday, October 20
12:00 pm Penn St. (-7, 53 1/2) at Indiana - Penn State is pretty good, right? After losing at Illinois, they thumped Iowa and Wisconsin at home, but now have to go on the road to play the Hoosiers. Indiana's two losses were to Illinois and at Michigan State, last week, 52-27. You won't see nearly a score that high here. The Hoosiers are going to get beat by the Penn State defense.
Prediction: Nittany Lions 24 Hoosiers 13
Prediction: Volunteers 35 Crimson Tide 21
3:30 pm USC (-18, 45) at Notre Dame - The Irish are at home and this is a big rivalry, but they are 1-6, while USC is still in the hunt for the national championship. This is a game that USC, and their talented squad, cannot afford to lose. In fact, they should make a bold statement here after a number of lackluster performances, especially on defense.
Prediction: Trojans 45 Fighting Irish 10
3:30 pm Michigan St. at Ohio State (-17, 52) - Now that the Buckeyes are ranked #1 in the BCS, isn't it time for them to lose a game? That's been the trend all season long, and while the Spartans aren't exactly nationals championship caliber, who really is? Ohio St. has the best defense in the country, but they are a little short when they have the ball, which should play into the hands of the Spartans, who are a bit defense-challenged. Michigan State may not win this game, but they will score enough to keep it exciting until late in the 4th quarter.
Prediction: Buckeyes 35 Spartans 27
