College Football Week 8 Top 25

Fearless Rick's College Football Week 8 Picks - Late Games

3:30 pm Florida (-7, 64) at Kentucky - Somewhat surprising that the Wildcats are underdogs again at home after knocking off LSU, something the Gators couldn't do. In that regard, get ready for one of the highest-scoring SEC affairs of the season, with Kentucky handing Florida their third loss of the season.

Prediction: Wildcats 45 Gators 42

3:30 pm California (off the board, N/A) at UCLA - This game is off the board due to the condition of QBs on both teams. The Bruins are without their 1st and 2nd string signal-callers, while the availability of Cal's Nate Longshore is a little clearer. He is likely to play after sitting out last week with a sprained ankle. If Vegas decides on a line here, it's likely to make Cal about a TD favorite. On that note, with Longshore back, Cal should win this going away.

Prediction: Golden Bears 38 Bruins 16

3:30 pm Texas Tech at Missouri (-3 1/2, 75) - The Mizzou suffered their first loss of the season last week at Oklahoma, though they weren't disgraced, losing 41-31. Missouri actually led, 24-23, after 3 quarters, but mistakes late cost them the game. Texas Tech has the 3rd best scoring offense in the nation, at an even 50 ppg, and the Missouri defense doesn't have many answers. An upset in the making.

Prediction: Red Raiders 48 Tigers 35

5:30 pm Kansas (-4, 56) at Colorado - The Buffaloes may have beaten Oklahoma, but they also lost to Arizona State, Florida State and last week were humbled at Kansas State, 47-20. The Jayhawks beat K-State two weeks ago and smashed Baylor 58-10 last week. The 2nd-highest scoring team in the nation, at 50.3 ppg, undefeated Kansas should rip through the good, but not great, Colorado defense.

Prediction: Jayhawks 40 Buffaloes 17

8:00 pm Virginia at Maryland (-4 1/2, 43) - Big test for both teams in the wide-open ACC. Maryland can boast wins over Rutgers and Georgia Tech, but losses to Wake Forest and West Virginia. You have to give the Terrapins credit for playing one of the toughest schedules in the country. Virginia has compiled a 6-1 record over fair competition, their only loss coming in the season opener at Wyoming. They too have a win over Georgia Tech, and are coming off a 1-point win over UConn. This should be a close, defensive game won on a late field goal.

Prediction: Cavaliers 20 Terrapins 17

8:00 pm Michigan (-2 1/2, 49 1/2) at Illinois - Surprise, surprise, the Wolverines have won 5 in a row and are a perfect 3-0 in the conference. The Illini have had their day in the sun, beating Penn State and then Wisconsin, ending the then-longest win streak in the country. Last week, however, Illinois couldn't generate any offense at Iowa, dropping a big one, 10-6. Michigan has too much talent and pride to lose this important road game.

Prediction: Wolverines 31 Fighting Illini 17

9:00 pm - Auburn at LSU (-11, 42 1/2) - Maybe LSU isn't as good as everyone thought, or maybe the SEC is the best conference in the country - by far. Auburn, which already has a win over Florida, is on a four-game win streak after squeaking by Arkansas, 9-7, which is the kind of game Auburn can play and win. While LSU's defense has gotten plenty of praise, Auburn's is every bit its equal and they will show up in Death Valley. Last season, Auburn won 7-3 in a classic battle and the hunch is that this game will be every bit as good and closely contested. Want a real shock? How about back-to-back losses for LSU?

Prediction: Auburn Tigers 21 LSU Tigers 20
