Thursday, Aug. 30

Arizona at Denver (-4 1/2, 39 1/2) 9:00 pm - There's no reason to believe that the Broncos will be a contender this season. The offense has only produced 53 points and Jay Cutler hasn't looked very good. Arizona will only get better and a win here sets them up nicely for the regular season.

Prediction: Cardinals 30 Broncos 10

Oakland at Seattle (-3, 37 1/2) 10:00 pm - Why the Raiders haven't come to terms with JaMarcus Russell underscores a major problem for the NFL. Russell hasn't even touched a football, but he and his agent feel comfortable holding out. It's a distraction, and likely to not earn Russell any points with teammates if he ever does decide to sign on.

Josh McCown and Daunte Culpepper will both get playing time in this game and Oakland's defense looks like it's coming together nicely. The Seahawks will bag this one and virtually hand the Raiders a win.

Prediction: Raiders 24 Seahawks 7

San Francisco at San Diego (-3, 39) 10:00 pm - The 49ers have a lot more to play for here than the Chargers and they're likely to air it out against San Diego's suspect 2nd team secondary. The Chargers would probably just rather not even play this game and get the regular season underway, but the 'Niners may make it interesting.

Prediction: 49ers 31 Chargers 13

Baltimore (-3 1/2, 34) at Atlanta 7:30 pm - Baltimore a road favorite against the surprising Falcons? Baltimore opened with an impressive win, but has looked flat the past two games. Their defense has only allowed 29 points, but how much will the starters play? Atlanta is going to quickly forget the name "Vick" and move on. Points at home. Take them.

Prediction: Falcons 17 Ravens 13

Indianapolis at Cincinnati (-5, 40 1/2) 7:30 pm - Fans won't see much of Peyton Manning or Carson Palmer, but there will be fireworks as both squads have pretty good backup offenses and not much in the way of defense. Giving the Colts points may be a mistake however.

Prediction: Colts 31 Bengals 24
