Fearless Rick's NFL Week 13 Picks - Early Games

Thursday, Nov. 29

Green Bay at Dallas (-7, 51 1/2) 8:15 pm - This game will be viewed by the fewest number of any nationally-televised games due to the fact that it is being aired by the NFL Network, who still hasn't worked out an agreement with cable operators. It's too bad, because it is one of the premiere games of the week. Both teams are seeking home field advantage throughout the playoffs, and while the Cowboys possess an explosive offense, their defense is sometimes exploited by opponents, especially through the air, where Green bay excels. Besides, isn't the thought of giving any team with Brett Favre at quarterback 7 points kind of silly?

Prediction: Packers 34 Cowboys 31

Sunday, Dec. 2

Atlanta at St. Louis (off the board) 1:00 pm - Game is OTB due to the uncertain status of Rams' QB Marc Bulger. It's too bad, really, because the Rams were playing much better since getting him and running back Steven Jackson back in the starting lineup. Bulger suffered a concussion in last Sunday's clash with the Seahawks (which the Rams should have won) and may be a game time decision. If he can go, take the Rams.

Prediction: Rams 27 Falcons 13

Buffalo at Washington (-5 1/2, 37) 1:00 pm - Washington may be in a bit of disarray following the tragic death of Sean Taylor, but they are still a team improving in many areas. Buffalo will start Trent Edwards at QB over JP Losman, and that gives them a better chance of winning. Marshawn Lynch is still sidelined for the Bills, but Anthony Thomas has filled in well and won't turn the ball over. A close one to the finish, a wise move to take the points, though Washington should eke out a win.

Prediction: Redskins 20 Bills 17

Detroit at Minnesota (-3 1/2, 35 1/2) 1:00 pm - The Vikings are coming off a dominating road performance over the Giants, while the Lions have had extra time to recover from a tough home loss to Green Bay. These two teams met in week two with Minny coming up 3 points short and now they seek revenge. Another close call, with the Vikes turning the tables on the Lions by the identical margin.

Prediction: Vikings 24 Lions 21

Houston at Tennessee (-4, 42 1/2) 1:00 pm - The Titans have played horribly the past two weeks, so it's actually surprising to see them favored, though it's not a big margin. The line leads one to believe that Houston is capable of pulling off the upset. Since the Texans are a respectable 2-3 on the road and nearly beat the Titans (lost, 38-36) in week 7, taking the divisional road dog seems reasonable.

Prediction: Texans 30 Titans 27

Jacksonville at Indianapolis (-6 1/2, 45) 1:00 pm - The Jaguars continue to be one of the more consistent teams in the league and one of the top defenses. For years, they've nipped at the Colts' heels, never able to wrest control of the division from them. This may be their best chance, with David Garrard at QB leading the charge and a duo of capable running backs. Indy is still a bit dinged up, though Marvin Harrison is expected back for this important game. Expect a lower-scoring affair than the line is advertising and a potential upset with post-season implications.

Prediction: Jaguars 23 Colts 20

N.Y. Jets at Miami (-1, 38) 1:00 pm - Imagine Miami actually being favored, but they are playing the Jets, to whom they lost 31-28 in week 3. The Jets already have a win, and they're still pretty bad. The Dolphins will even the score here.

Prediction: Dolphins 27 Jets 17

--- Story continues below ---

San Diego (-5 1/2, 37 1/2) at Kansas City 1:00 pm - The Chiefs are a team heading in exactly the wrong direction. Following their 4-3 start, they've lost four straight and a loss here would effectively put their playoff hopes to rest. Obviously, San Diego is capable of beating just about any team on any field, though they are a miserable 1-4 on the road. KC has nobody to cover Antonio Gates and the emergence of Chris Chambers will also pay dividends here.

Prediction: Chargers 38 Chiefs 14

Seattle at Philadelphia (-3, 42) 1:00 pm - After nearly beating New England, there has to be a feeling of confidence in the Philly ranks. Jay Feeley looks composed in the pocket and the defense will shut down the Seahawks, who are a very questionable proposition on the road (2-3). Philly may still harbor thoughts of the playoffs, but at 5-6, they're growing slim and this is a must game. The Eagles should be at the top of their game here and put on a show of Philly pride.

Prediction: Eagles 28 Seahawks 13

San Francisco at Carolina (-3, 35 1/2) 1:00 pm - Not much to say about these two cellar-dwellers except that at least the 49ers have a healthy QB in Trent Dilfer. He should be good enough to get the 'Niners another win.

Prediction: 49ers 20 Panthers 10

Tampa Bay at New Orleans (-3, 42) 1:00 pm - The Saints are two games behind the Buccaneers in the NFC South, so this has become a must game for them. A win would even their record at 6-6 and drop Tampa Bay to 7-5. The Bucs smashed the Saints back in week 2, 31-14, so New Orleans would like to return the favor, but this looks like the end of the road for Drew Brees, Reggie Bush and New Orleans. It really isn't the offense's fault the way the season has gone; the Saints' defense is allowing nearly 24 points per game. Tampa Bay gives up only 14.9.

Prediction: Buccaneers 21 Saints 17
