Sunday, Oct. 7

Tampa Bay at Indianapolis (-10, 46) 4:05 pm - This should be fun to watch. Tampa bay is playing defense like when Tony Dungy was their coach. He's changed stripes somewhat, though having Peyton Manning as your QB will do that to you. The Colts like to mix it up and they will bang with Joseph Addai. That will only serve to anger the Bucs, who have won three straight by easy margins. The Colts will be lucky to get out of their own stadium alive.

Prediction: Buccaneers 24 Colts 21

Baltimore (-3 1/2, 35 1/2) at San Francisco 4:15 pm - The Ravens haven't exactly looked like world-beaters, though neither have the 49ers. And with starting QB Alex Smith possibly gone for the season, Trent Dilfer is at the controls. Last week the offense he led scored all of 3 points at home against the Seahawks. Maybe a shutout this week? Why not. Steve McNair is probable for the Ravens and at 2-2 they are in desperate need of a win.

Prediction: Ravens 27 49ers 0

San Diego at Denver (-1 1/2, 42) 4:15 pm - Speaking of teams needing wins, how about these 1-3 Chargers? They have all the weapons one could ask for, and judging how Denver was mauled by Indy last week, Rivers, Tomlinson and Gates should have big days. Denver is a little short on the run-stopping gauge, and that will hurt here. The Chargers will take charge in the second half and run away.

Prediction: Chargers 35 Broncos 20

--- Story continues below ---

Chicago at Green Bay (-3, 40 1/2) 8:15 pm - Dating back to last season, the Packers have won 8 straight. Since losing the Super Bowl, Chicago is 1-3 and they have no offense. A lot of blame can go to Rex Grossman, but now Bears' fans can start blaming Brian Griese instead. I still think the receivers are the main problem. They're just not that good. And Cedric Benson is not Thomas Jones. Bye-bye Bears. Brett Favre is going to chew you up.

Prediction: Packers 31 Bears 10

Monday, October 8

Dallas at Buffalo (-10, 44 1/2) 8:30 pm - This isn't very nice, making the Bills play Dallas on Monday night. Memories of those disastrous Super Bowl losses in the 80s are still fresh in the minds of many Bills' fans. Wouldn't it be nice to get some measure of revenge and beat these red-hot Cowboys? Not going to happen, but in the shocker of the week, the Bills will cover the spread, but only if Trent Edwards starts at QB. If Losman gets the nod, the Cowboys will win by 21.

Prediction: Cowboys 28 Bills (with Edwards) 20

Open date: Cincinnati, Minnesota, Oakland, Philadelphia
