Week 12 Notes:

For the first time all season there were no major upsets over the weekend, as the first 14 teams in the Downtown Magazine rankings all won or were idle. Thus, those positions remain the same as in Week 11.

Losers were abundant in the ACC, where Florida State, North Carolina and Virginia Tech all took it on the chin and were bounced out. Also dropping out of the rankings were Arizona and Tulsa.

The best team that probably should have been ranked but wasn't has to be Oregon State, which beat Cal handily, 34-21, and is in position to capture the PAC-10 title, or maybe Boston College, after completely handling Florida State, in Tallahasse, 27-17, improving to 7-3 overall, though only 3-3 in the ACC.

Maryland and Miami both ended up in cat-bird seats with narrow upset wins over North Carolina and Virginia Tech, respectively. Both teams lead their ACC divisions with identical 4-2 conference and 7-3 overall records.
