--- Week 1 Notes below ---

Week 4 Notes: With the top two teams in the Downtown Magazine rankings - USC and Oklahoma - idle, Georgia cemented its place at #3 with a relatively-easy win at Arizona State, 27-10. That loss - the second straight for the Sun Devils - knocked them out of their precarious position in the Top 25. They are 2-2 and more deserving teams have moved past them. Earlier in the day, Oregon suffered their first loss of the season, just a week after surviving a scare at Purdue, winning in overtime. The Ducks not only lost, but were embarrassed by Boise State, 37-32, after rallying for 19 unanswered points in the 4th quarter, by which time the Broncos had all but wrapped up the win.

These two losses left the PAC-10 with only one team - USC - in the Top 25. The perception is that the PAC-10, with the exception of the Trojans, is incredibly weak. USC should have little trouble rolling through their season undefeated and will likely be one of the two teams vying for the BSC national championship.

A number of teams entered or re-entered the Top 25. Colorado improved to 3-0 with a 17-14 win over West Virginia and made the grade at #21. Cincinnati, re-entered the Top 25 at #25 after crushing Miami (OH), 42-20. The Bearcats' only loss was at Oklahoma. Clemson also re-emerged at #20, after crushing S. Carolina St., 54-0. Boise State was installed at #23. Auburn dropped from #4 to #12, suffering a 26-21 loss at LSU.

Ohio State dropped from #8 to #12. Their 28-10 win over Troy was hardly convincing. The Buckeyes scored 14 in the 4th quarter to end what was a close game throughout. Besides, Alabama, BYU and Penn State recorded massive romps, earning them extra credit. Idle Wisconsin received the benefit of the doubt, moving up a notch, from #6 to #5.
