--- Week 1 Notes below ---

Week 9 Notes:

Last week, there was only one team with two losses represented in the Top 25 rankings. After Saturday's slaughter of 1-loss teams, there are now seven, plus Arizona (the lone 2-loss team from the week 8 rankings) with three losses, following their hard-fought 17-10 loss to USC. Any team that can stay within a touchdown of a Top 5 team surely makes the grade, especially in the PAC-10, which has been searching for somebody to unseat the Trojans for the last 4 years.

Of teams which were summarily excused from the rankings, were a quartet of Eastern teams: South Florida, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and Boston College. Upended by UConn, 40-16, the Bearcats suffered their second, and worst, loss of the season. Also in the Big East, Pittsburgh was plundered by Rutgers, 54-34, and South Florida was victimized by Louisville's revenge, in a 24-21 upset. In the ACC, Boston College was booted by North Carolina, 45-24, and Georgia Tech got stung by Virginia, 24-17.

Closer to the top, the Oklahoma State Cowboys kept things close at Texas, ending up on the bottom side of a 28-24 score, but dropped only a couple of spots. Alabama won handily at Tennessee and Penn State remained perfect with a gutty, 13-6 performance at Ohio State. Oklahoma, Florida, Georgia and Texas Tech all recorded resounding victories, setting up another battle of unbeatens in the Big 12, as the Longhorns travel to play the Red Raiders in Lubbock, this Saturday, November 1.
