Fearless Rick's College Football Week 6 Picks - Late Games

6:00 pm Auburn (-4, 37) at Vanderbilt - Auburn has one of the best defenses in the country, but they're having serious trouble generating offense. Last week's 14-12 home win over Tennessee included a gift fumble in the Vols' end zone, so the offense didn't put up any points after the first quarter. Vandy already has wins over Mississippi and South Carolina, so a win here puts them at 3-0 and in excellent position in the conference standings. The Commodores aren't especially overwhemling in any particular aspect, they just play good hard football for 60 minutes and that is the key to their success. Auburn's lack of offensive firepower will be their undoing in this road test.

Prediction: Commodores 20 Tigers 14

7:00 pm Connecticut at North Carolina (-7, 46) - The UConn Huskies are 5-0, yet a touchfown underdog heading down to Tobacco Road. That's because the Tar Heels are getting plenty of love from bookies and fans, though they're only 3-1 and gave away a game in a 20-17 loss to Virginia Tech. Sweet Carolina may prove to be a tasty place for backers of UConn, who have simply improved every year since joining Division 1-A seven years ago. That undefeated mark is no fluke and they're likely to remain without a loss after this.

Prediction: Huskies 27 Tar Heels 24

8:00 pm Texas (-14, 56) at Colorado - Colorado was exposed last week at Florida State, suffering a humbling 39-21 defeat in Florida. Back home, sporting a 3-1 record, they have the Longhorns coming to town seeking respect. At 4-0, Texas hasn't won a game this season by less than 29 points, even though the opponents haven't exactly been household names. Still, the Longhorns should be runnin' and gunnin' throughout. They rank 6th nationally on offense and may move up after this one.

Prediction: Longhorns 42 Buffaloes 10

8:00 pm Ohio St. (-2, 44 1/2) at Wisconsin - Last season, Ohio State hammered the Badgers 38-17 en route to a national championship game (which they lost). After unwinding against Michigan last week, it will be difficult for Wisconsin to pull themselves together confidently even though they are at home. This is undoubtably one of the biggest games of the season for both teams. A Wisconsin loss puts them out of the Big 10 title chase with their second loss. The Buckeyes should come through with a quality win. They are a much better team than the one which lost 35-3 at USC earlier this season.

Prediction: Buckeyes 31 Badgers 21

8:00 pm Oregon at USC (-16 1/2, N/A) - The Trojans have much to prove after losing at Oregon State last week, but they should rebound at home against the injury-prone Ducks. At the heart of this game is the Oregon QB picture. It's unclear whether Jeremiah Masoli or Justin Roper will get the nod. Masoli has started the last two, but Roper has experience. Actually, after hammering Washington State, 63-14 last week, the Ducks have a 2-0 record in the conference and could be troublesome to the Trojans. This one could be close, but USC should prevail at home.

Prediction: Trojans 31 Ducks 26

9:00 pm Missouri (-10 1/2, N/A) at Nebraska - Pretty big spread for a team that is on the road and hasn't exactly shown any propensity on defense. Of course, the Tigers are ranked #2 nationally, scoring at a 53.8 ppg clip. Their four wins have come against so-so competition after beating Illinois 52-42 in their home opener. This is Missouri's first road game and Nebraska's 5th straight at home. That may be a decisive factor here as the Cornhuskers look to rebound from their first loss, a gritty effort in a 35-30 loss to hard-hitting Virginia Tech. Look for loads and loads of points in what may turn into a 4-hour track meet.

Prediction: Tigers 45 Cornhuskers 42
