NCAA College Football Top 25 - Week 12

--- Week 12 Notes below ---
The travesty of the week (and there were a few of them) is the exclusion of Nebraska from the BCS in the most current poll. It not as though the Cornhuskers are undeserving, after all they are 8-3 and last week clinched the North division of the Big 12 Conference. That has to be worth something.
The Big 12 South belongs to Texas, and they're ranked #3. And, well, Nebraska lost, on the road, by one point, to #14 in the BCS, Virginia Tech. The Hokies have an identical 8-3 record, but they - unlike the 'Huskers - aren't going to their conference championship game.
Other than the loss at Virginia Tech, the Cornhuskers lost at home to Texas Tech, 31-10, and Iowa State, 9-7, so, this is a team that is 3 points away from being 10-1 and vying for a BCS bid. On TV, the talkers keep jabbering about Oklahoma State being awarded one of the BCS at-large bids. No talk of Nebraska. Well, that's travesty for you; nine teams in the BCS with 8-3 records, and even a 7-3 team (USC), but no mention of Nebraska, the team that will play Texas for the Big 12 title on December 5th. Ho-hum.
USC did not make Downtown Magazine's Top 25, so, when it comes to the BCS vs. DTM, we're even. USC doesn't make the cut here.
The top three teams - Alabama, Texas, Florida - all cruised past their opponents this week, as did numbers 4 and 5, Boise State and TCU. Actually, those two should be ranked equal #5, with both of them moving up to #4 - if they don't lose - when either Florida or Alabama gets knocked off in the SEC title match.
College football fans may not get what they deserve, but at least they're going to get the game many want: the winner of the SEC against the de facto champion of the Big 12, Texas. After that, we're probably going to get a smorgasbord of games something on the order of Ohio State vs. Oregon in the Rose Bowl, TCU vs. Cincinnati in the Sugar, the winner of the ACC - either Georgia Tech or Clemson, against Boise State in the Orange. After that, it gets a little cloudy, because the Fiesta Bowl has a designee explicitly from the Big 12, so that would be Oklahoma State (Nebraska screwed again), even though they're just average against another at-large, ostensibly the loser of the SEC title game.
Not a bad slate, but there's the potential of going into the Bowls with 5 unbeaten teams, matching up 4 of them against each other, and having 1 playing a one-loss or 3-loss team. The Fiesta Bowl between Oklahoma St. and the SEC loser, becomes meaningless, which is too bad, because it's on a Monday night, whereas the Orange is on Tuesday.
It's all a little much, and, in the end, there are liable to still be 3 undefeated teams remaining, maybe, if they play their hands wrong again, four.
At least UConn beat Notre Dame, which was probably the best single thing to happen all season, not just for the Huskies, who deserve recognition - and especially coach Randy Edsel, for persevering under dire conditions - but for all the college fans who won't have to look at Charlie Weis for another desperate season.
