Week 3 Notes:

The biggest upset of the year, it appears, was not BYU dropping Oklahoma, but this week's shattering win by Jake Locker and the Washington Huskies over the previously unbeaten USC Trojans. In both instances, the quarterback of the losing team was a key element in what happened on the field.

In Oklahoma's case, Sam Bradford was injured early in the game and the offense was not the same after that, allowing the Cougars to maintain and eventually win. As for USC, it was the hero of the previous week, Matt Barkley, who was unable to go at all, leaving the snap-handling and passing duties to untested Aaron Corp, who flopped in his appearance on the national stage. With the 16-13 win, Washington enters the Top 25 at the bottom of the heap.

Perhaps even more surprising was Florida State's road win over the high and mighty BYU Cougars. After losing their opener to Miami, 38-34, the Seminoles responded with a win over Jacksonville State (19-9), but last week stepped it up another notch, topping the Cougars on their own field by a whopping 54-28 score.

Elsewhere, Oklahoma State rebounded from their 45-35 upset at the hands of Houston in week 2 with a 41-24 win over Rice, which actually was not an impressive win. The Cowboys have a number of key players out or nursing nagging injuries though they should make their way through the next few weeks of weakling opponents.
