Thursday, November 19

Colorado Buffaloes at Oklahoma State Cowboys (-14, 49) 7:30 pm - OK, since we gotta have a Thursday night game, might as well feature one of the best offensive teams n the nation: the Cowboys of Oklahoma State, putting up 33 points and 400 yards per outing. Over the past couple of weeks, OKST also showed that they cam play some defense, limiting Iowa St. to 8 and Texas Tech to just 17, when the Red Raiders normally put up more than 38. The Cowboys are 8-2, with losses to just Houston and Texas. They're a high-qaulity squad capable of rolling over the Buffs, especially with Colorado on the road, where they are 0-5. The whole matter is whether the Cowboys can cover the hefty line. Since 6 of their 8 wins have been by 14 or more, why not?

PREDICTION: Cowboys 38 Buffaloes 10

Saturday, November 21

Ohio State Buckeyes (-12 1/2, 47) at Michigan Wolverines 12:00 pm - The Buckeyes have already clinched the Big Ten title and a trip to the Rose Bowl, so they may be a little less-enthusiastic about this game than usual. Also, the Wolverines are just 5-6 with 4 straight losses after a 4-0 start to the season.

Michigan's season looked so promising back in September, but the wheels of the defense came completely off when they started conference play. In 7 Big Ten games, of which they've won only one (Indiana, 36-33), the Wolverines have allowed an average of 34.85 points per game, and no matter how good your offense happens to be, you are not going to win many games with that kind of allowance on defense. It would be nice to suggest that the Michigan players will be up for this game and give their all, but it appears that all they really want is for the season to be over.

From the Buckeye side of the ball, the alums will be giving the players serious grief if they don't absolutely slaughter what looks like a very vulnerable team.

PREDICTION: Buckeyes 48 Wolverines 17

Minnesota Golden Gophers at Iowa Hawkeyes (-9 1/.2, 44 1/2) 12:00 pm - The Hawkeyes have had one heck of a season and they can look forward to a solid campaign for years to come after seeing freshman QB James Vandenberg in action against Ohio State. His performance in the overtime loss was memorable, and served notice that he's going to fit in well next season as the Hawkeyes vie once more for the Big Ten title.

However, there is still some unfinished business, and the Hawkeyes will be more comfortable at home for their season finale. After losing their last two games, they need to put up a solid effort in order to secure a nice bowl bid.

Against ranked opponents, the Golden Gophers are about where you'd expect them to be: 0-3, with the average margin of loss just over 3 TDs, which indicates that the Hawkeyes will indeed win and cover.

PREDICTION: Hawkeyes 28 Golden Gophers 14

North Carolina Tar Heels at Boston College Eagles (-3 1/2, 37 1/2) 12:00 pm - Boston College needs to win this game in order to have any chance of taking the ACC Atlantic division. They lost to Clemson earlier in the season, and the Tigers are currently 5-2, and have a date with Virginia at 3:30. A win there will clinch the division. BC is 4-2, so they must win in order to have any chance.

The Eagle losses have all come on the road and to good teams. Besides Clemson, they have losses to Virginia Tech and Notre Dame. North Carolina will be no pushover, having an identical 7-3 record, though they are 3-3 in the conference. The Tar Heels have had only three road games this season, and since they've won two of them: at UConn and Virginia Tech, there's a very good chance that they'll win this one outright. When they are on their game, the Heels are as good as any team in the conference. Take nothing away from BC, though. This is a very even game which could easily come down to a point or two.

PREDICTION: Tar Heels 23 Eagles 21

--- Story continues below ---

Connecticut Huskies at Notre Dame Fighting Irish (-6, 57 1/2) 2:30 pm - With all of the flack flying around Notre Dame concerning the future of Charlie Weis, there's the distinct possibility that the players may not have had their best week of practice. Of course, they could have had a great week of practice and still not be up to the task of topping the Huskies, who have had as tough a season as any football team in recent memory.

Connecticut is, without a doubt, the best 4-5 team in the country. Their losses have come by a combined score of 15 points, they have scored 7 more TDs than they've allowed, and have suffered through the violent death of a teammate at mid-season.

As much as the Irish may have been beset with issues due to scrutiny, they pale before the trials of the Huskies. If ever one team deserved a win based sole on determination, integrity and commitment, it has to be UConn. They have the right stuff for Notre Dame: a will to win.

PREDICTION: Huskies 27 Fighting Irish 20

Air Force Falcons at Brigham Young Cougars (-10, 46) 3:30 pm - With all the focus on TCU and their prefect season, not too many people have paid attention to the other Mountain West teams, especially the Falcons, who gave TCU all they could handle in a 20-17 loss back on October 10. Air Force has lost four games, but two have been by a TD and two by 3 points, so they have to be given a chance for the upset here. Over their last three games - all wins - they've been blistering the opposition, to the tune of a combined score of 114-30. The defense has always been there for Air Force, and lately, the offense is really in high gear.

The Cougars have had a memorable season, complete with ups and downs, but they have a unique trap game here as they come in at 8-2, with no chance to catch TCU and Utah coming to town next week. Air Force, playing their final regular season game, is likely to surprise them.

PREDICTION: Falcons 34 Cougars 30

Penn State Nittany Lions (-3, 47 1/2) at Michigan State Spartans 3:30 pm - Of Big Ten teams that have had the misfortune of playing the Spartans at home, only one - Iowa - has come away without a loss. Michigan lost, 26-20, and Northwestern got beat back, 24-14. The 6-5 Spartans have been seeking recognition all season and they may just get some here as the Nittany Lions, despite their gaudy 8-2 record, are only 3-point favorites and maybe shouldn't be favored at all.

Michigan State has speedy receivers which the Lions may not be able to handle in the secondary. If QB Kirk Cousins is on his game, there aren't many better ball-handlers in the nation. He's tossed 17 TD passes to just 5 INTs and is connecting on 62% of his throws. He and receivers Blair White and B.J. Cunningham are probably the best-kept secret in the country.

Penn State is favored only because they're Penn State and a lot of money goes down on them no matter who they're playing. Realistically, the Nittany Lions have only played two really good teams - Ohio State and Iowa - and they've lost to them both, both at home. This one's on the road. Ya gotta love it.

PREDICTION: Spartans 28 Nittany Lions 24
