--- Week 14 Notes below ---

Week 14 Notes:

Auburn was so impressive in its 56-17 win over South Carolina in the SEC championship that they vaulted over TCU and Oregon into the top spot in the rankings. The Tigers will face #2 Oregon in the National Championship game on January 10, a full 37 days between games for the top two schools in the nation.

While #3 TCU finishes as the only other undefeated program in the country, they are the victims again of hard luck and the lack of being in an automatic qualifier conference under the BCS regime. They will enter the Big East beginning with the 2012 season, however.

Oddly enough, the three highest-ranked teams which suffered losses over the weekend were the teams ranked 13, 14 and 15 last week: South Carolina, Nebraska and Florida State. All three fell in conference championship games to teams ranked higher than themselves, respectively, Auburn, Oklahoma, and Virginia Tech.

The only other team to fall out was #24 Northern Illinois, which fell out of the Top 25 by losing the MAC championship to upstart Miami (OH), which deserves a tip of the cap by turning completely around from a 1-11 season in 2009, to a 9-4 record this season with the GoDaddy.com Bowl on January 6 still ahead.

The University of Connecticut endured a troubling start to the season and finished as the Big east champions, knocking off South Florida after beating both West Virginia and Pitt, all of which finished the regular season with a conference record of 5-2, though UConn held the tie-breaker in head-to-head games over both.
