Sunday, September 19

Miami Dolphins at Minnesota Vikings (-6, 39) 1:00 pm - Miami had trouble moving the ball against Buffalo in their season opener last week, and now must play on the road again, and against one of the best defenses in the league. The Vikes are probably going to win this game. They have the players and are at home. The only question is, by how many points?

At least ten.

Prediction: Vikings 28 Dolphins 9

Arizona Cardinals at Atlanta Falcons (-7, 43) 1:00 pm - The Steelers put a serious kibosh on the Falcons last week, holding them to three fields goals and 58 yards rushing, but it's doubtful that the Cardinals can produce that kind of defense, especially on the road. The Cardinals did pick off Sam Bradford three times last week, and won a road opener and held Steven Jackson to 81 yards on 22 carries and no TDs. The Cardinals are probably a little better than people think and the Falcons not quite as good as consensus opinion.

Fade the points. The Cardinal offense may be the real key.

Prediction: Cardinals 23 Falcons 20

Baltimore (-1 1/2, 40) at Cincinnati Bengals 1:00 pm - This one offers plenty of intrigue and angles. Baltimore's defense was rugged against the Jets, but the Jets did shoot themselves in the feet too often in their 10-9 loss. The Bengals had issues in New England and should show much more resolve here. Being underdogs at home can only serve to fuel the fire.

Can the Bengals turn up the heat, or is the Ochocinco-TO love fest getting old already? Cincinnati won both contests with the Ravens last year, 17-7 and 17-14 in Baltimore. Tough call which will be decided more by emotion than talent, so take the Ravens as long as Ray Lewis is playing and they're winning.

Prediction: Ravens 17 Bengals 14

Be.

Kansas City at Cleveland Browns (-2, 38) 1:00 pm - Sure, make the Browns favorites over the winning Chiefs. Kansas City showed a lot of grit winning against San Diego, so the question is, if the Chiefs could hold Phillip Rivers and the Charger offense to 14 points, how many will the Browns score?

That should be a single digit answer, like 6 or 7, or maybe 9 points is all the Brownies will get. KC is going to do some things this season that nobody expects, but one of them is definitely NOT losing to Cleveland.

Prediction: Chiefs 34 Browns 24

Chicago Bears at Dallas Cowboys (-9, 41) 1:00 pm - Question marks are springing up all over Dallas, after the Cowboys looked amateurish in their 13-7 loss at Washington. Dallas does have a very, very good defense, and it's unlikely that the bears will be able to generate much offensive thrust against them.

Dallas needs to make a statement here, though it's in doubt whether they can actually do that. Nine points is a bunch for a team that just lost and didn't look good doing it, but, if there's a choice to be made, one has to believe this one's going to be all Cowboys, all day long.

Prediction: Cowboys 27 Bears 13

Philadelphia Eagles (-4 1/2, 41) at Detroit Lions 1:00 pm - Here's the quiz: Is Andy Reid as dumb as he looks or is he just faking it by starting Kevin Kolb over Michael Vick? Kolb is never going to make it as a starter in the NFL, but Vick, possessed of incredible talent and live legs, came on last week and nearly won the game for the Eagles. So, Reid says Kolb's the starter if he's able to go, though it appears he will be sidelined, so we may have to withhold judgement on coach Reid. This will probably be the last chance to get the Eagles as dumb money favorites on the road because Vick will be starting soon after this debacle ends.

Detroit got jobbed and robbed on the disallowed TD pass in Chicago, but Stafford's out, making picking the Eagles somewhat of a no-brainer.

Prediction: Eagles 34 Lions 21

For the past 2 years, Allen Eastman's 99 system for betting NFL football has gone an exceptional 50-21 (70%) and last year alone was 27-13 ATS. This year Eastman's at it again, going 3-1 to open the season with one of the best football betting systems available.

Buffalo Bills at Green Bay Packers (-14, 43) 1:00 pm - The Packers built up a big lead over Philly last week and had issues defending Michael Vick in the second half. That's understandable, as the players were not expecting him, and, yeah, he's pretty good. Buffalo played well on defense against Miami, though the offense struggled mightily. Fourteen points is a bunch, even for a team as solid as Green Bay. This game could be low-scoring, which means the Bills may think they have a shot at the end.

Here's something to chew upon: Green Bay is 2-5 SU in its last 7 games when playing Buffalo and 1-5-1 ATS in its last 7 games against the Bills.

Prediction: Packers 28 Bills 21

Pittsburgh Steelers at Tennessee Titans (-5, 37) 1:00 pm - Despite Pittsburgh winning at home over Atlanta, 15-9, there are still issues with the offense, though Dennis Dixon managed the game well and probably will here. Tennessee might be better than they showed against the Raiders, as they whipped them, 38-13. Pittsburgh is a much better team than Oakland, but the Titans are at home and they have two of the most dynamic offensive players in the league in Vince Young and Chris Johnson.

Pittsburgh plays good defense, but the Titans will find the end zone on at least three occasions, maybe more.

Prediction: Titans 27 Steelers 16

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Carolina Panthers (-3, 39) 1:00 pm - At least the Bucs won last week, but like a cheap claiming horse, Tampa Bay will find it difficult to string together wins. Don't think for a moment that this is in any way an endorsement of the Panthers, who were thoroughly routed by the Giants last weekend, 31-18, but somebody has to win this horrible game between two perennial cellar-dwellers, so the home team gets the nod. More often than not, these kinds of games are close, but hopelessly unexciting. Enjoy!

Prediction: Panthers 17 Buccaneers 13
