--- Week 11 Notes below ---

Looking for the best NFL Handicapper? Good luck. Most of them suck.

Week 11 Notes:

Stanford lost its first game of the season in a 53-30 loss to Oregon, ending the Cardinal run at #1 in the Downtown Magazine rankings after 10 straight weeks as the top dog.

The loss also ended the nation's longest winning streak at 17 straight and may have put Andrew Luck's Heisman Trophy dreams out of reach.

Previously ranked #3 Boise State also lost its first game of the year, dropping a 36-35 decision to rough-riding TCU, which used a two-point conversion late in the game to record the upset. That puts the 8-2 Horned Frogs in the driver's seat in the Mountain West conference with a perfect, 5-0 record. Boise State is 3-1 in conference play.

All of the rest of the top 10 teams - outside of Oklahoma, which had the week off - were winners, moving up due to the two losses at the top. Clemson, ranked #11 last week, moved into the #10 slot, with Boise State dropping to #11. The Cardinal dropped to #7, just ahead of Oklahoma.

Four other ranked teams were losers, including Penn State, which lost at home to Nebraska, 17-14, amid an ongoing sexual abuse scandal that has rocked the University to its core and left legendary Joe Paterno without a job, just a week after he became the career leader in wins, at 409. Penn State, ranked #12 in Week 10, fell to #22 in the current lineup.

Georgia Tech fell to Virginia Tech, losing a key ACC battle, 37-26, dropping from #20 to #25 in the latest rankings.

Texas and Cincinnati, ranked #23 and #24, respectively, also lost in-conference games, the Longhorns beaten at Missouri, 17-5, while the West Virginia Mountaineers outlasted the Bearcats, 24-21. Both Texas and Cincinnati dropped out of the Top 25.

All of that leaves the current rankings in complete, unbiased agreement with the BCS standings, with LSU #1 and Oklahoma State #2. The Tigers were less-than-impressive with a 42-9 victory over creampuff Western Kentucky, something of a letdown after their emotional, 9-6, win over SEC rival Alabama.

Like LSU, the Cowboys are 10-0, though their 66-6 win over Texas Tech was about as convincing a win as any this season.

Lurking in the wings, hoping for any loss by the top two, are Alabama, Oregon, Oklahoma, Arkansas and undefeated Houston (10-0), the only other team in the nation, besides LSU and Oklahoma State, without a loss.

Oklahoma and Arkansas will have a chance to shape their own - and college football's - seasonal destiny as the Sooners face the Oklahoma State Cowboys on December 3 on the Cowboys' home turf, while Arkansas gets a crack at top-rated LSU on Friday, November 25, when the Tigers visit the Razorbacks the day after Thanksgiving.
