--- Week 14 Notes below ---

Looking for the best NFL Handicapper? Good luck. Most of them suck.

Week 14 Notes:

Love it or hate it, the BCS has to go. The decision Sunday to have Alabama play LSU for the national championship is an absolute travesty. The Tigers already topped the Crimson Tide, 9-6, about a month ago, and, if somehow Alabama does win the big game, what does that say about winning your conference championship?

LSU did, Alabama wasn't even in the game. An Alabama win and subsequent national title would render the result of the SEC Championship - won by LSU, 42-10, over Georgia - completely meaningless.

Having a national champion that didn't even win its own conference would be like the NFL handing the Lombardi trophy to a team that didn't make the playoffs. The BCS is a horrible system and needs to not just be re-worked, but scrapped completely. It has been the cause for more fan consternation and the dissolution of conferences than any other element in the game.

As for the actual national champion, Downtown Magazine is ready to award the LSU Tigers the title, because the BCS national championship game will not be worth the price of admission. Truly, Oklahoma State should have been given the chance to play LSU, especially after their dominating win over their chief nemesis, Oklahoma, a massive, 44-10 blowout.

The rest of the bowl games may be equally uninteresting, for the players and the fans. Leaving Boise State out of the mix was another BCS blunder, and who wouldn't want to see a dynamic offense like the Broncos or even that of Southern Miss, winners of the Conference USA championship over Houston, 49-28.

Clemson had a nice win over Virginia Tech in the ACC Championship, 38-10, and, for their effort they get to play in the Orange Bowl against a sub-par West Virginia squad that was outplayed for almost their entire final regular season game by South Florida, eventually pulling out a 30-27 victory, but even the BCS themselves have them ranked 23rd.

From here through the end of bowl season, there will be changes to our rankings as the bowl results progress, but not at the #1 spot. Even if LSU loses to Alabama a month from now, they still proved, by virtue of a 13-0 record, against one of the toughest schedules in the country, that they have already proved themselves worthy.
