Fearless Rick's 2011-12 College Football Week 15 - Early Games

Saturday, Dec. 10

2:30 pm, Army vs. Navy (-7, 57) - The only game of the weekend pits two branches of the military at each other in a game that has literally no impact on anything other than bragging rights and spectacle.

Neither team had much of a season, as Army went 3-8 and Navy was 4-7 and it's a little bit odd that Navy should be such a heavy favorite, though the Midshipmen have won this annual classic nine times in a row. Over that span, the Black Knights have only been within 12 points once, back in 2006, when Navy won, 26-14.

The game will likely not feature many downfield throws, as both squads run the triple option, but, another surprise, Army is better at it, averaging 350.9 yards per game on the ground to Navy's 313.7.

The defenses are also pretty even, with Army allowing 28.4 points per game to Navy's 29.6.

The Middies seem to be playing a bit better ball at present, winning two games - Troy, 42-14, and at SMU, 24-17 - before losing their final game, 27-24, at San Jose State.

Amry comes into the fray losers of their last three, to Air Force, Rutgers and Temple, arguably better competition that what their seaworthy counterparts have been facing.

Streaks eventually come to an end, and after nine years of frustration, Army can win this one and have their season end on a solid note.

Prediction: Army 28 Navy 24
