Thursday, December 1

Philadelphia Eagles (-3, 43) at Seattle Seahawks 8:20 pm - If you're like just about everybody else on the planet: disgusted with the horribly inconsistent play of the Eagles over the course of the season, injuries not withstanding, then you will probably feel a bit of trepidation taking the Eagles on the road, across three time zones, on short rest.

Vince Young is almost a 100% probability to start in place of Michael Vick, and the Seahawks, like the Eagles, are just 4-7, and a long way from serious playoff consideration. The Eagles may find a new way to lose this game, just as they did against Chicago, Arizona and last week, New England, but sooner or later, Young will hook up with DeSean Jackson. Let's hope they're not already down 21-0 by then.

Prediction: Eagles 30 Seahawks 17

Sunday, December 4

Cincinnati Bengals at Pittsburgh Steelers (-7, 42 1/2) 1:00 pm - The Bengals continue to dog the Ravens and Steelers, trailing by a game in the AFC North, and they've been exceptional against the spread, going 7-3-1, though they failed to cover last week in their 23-20 nail-biter in Cleveland.

Likewise, the Steelers are coming off a win and no cover, as they failed to score much on the Chiefs in last week's 13-9 win, though the line was -11.

Willing to take a stand that the Steelers get their offense straightened out and do more of what they did to the Bengals in Cincinnati just three weeks ago, winning 24-17. Pittsburgh was a bit banged-up last week, but Troy Polamalu is listed as probable, as is LB James Harrison.

Prediction: Steelers 27 Bengals 17

Carolina Panthers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-3 1/2, 47) 1:00 pm - After getting crunched by the Titans last week, the Bucs' defense is mightily dinged up, not a welcome situation facing Cam Newton and the explosive (62 points in their last two games, both on the road) Panther offense.

The Bucs have lost five straight, and, at 4-7, are just a game ahead of the Panthers in the NFC South, so a Carolina victory could serve as a major stepping-stone win. Can the Panthers win, being on the road three weeks running? Well, usually, that's not a good sign, but considering they lost their last two and are a young team, their resilience will make another away game a non-factor.

Prediction: Panthers 34 Buccaneers 21

Kansas City Chiefs at Chicago Bears (-7, 36 1/2) 1:00 pm - Tyler Palko for the Chiefs at QB vs. Nears' backup Caleb Hanie means neither team has a real advantage on offense, though both squads looked pretty organized defensively last week, even though in losing efforts.

The 7-4 Bears still believe there's a pathway to the playoffs, currently tied with Atlanta and Detroit, while KC's record is the exact opposite, 4-7. Trailing Denver and Oakland in the division, they may have a chance, especially if their defense comes to play.

This could be the lowest-scoring games of the weekend, though turnovers could change that. Either way, it figures to be close.

Prediction: Chiefs 13 Bears 12

NY Jets (-3, 38) at Washington Redskins 1:00 pm - Jets' QB Mark Sanchez took some goading by coach Rex Rya and produced his best game of the season with four TD passes in the Jets' 28-24 win over the Bills.

The win made the Jets 6-5, so they'll have to step it up these last five weeks if they hope to make the playoffs, though this is a pattern we've seen before.

Washington has Rex Grossman back behind center, and against New York's defense, he's liable to be a bit wild. A few picks and New York's a winner by two TDs.

Prediction: Jets 24 Redskins 10

--- Story continues below ---

Atlanta Falcons (-2 1/2, 38 1/2) at Houston Texans 1:00 pm - Even though they're 8-3 and leading the Titans by two games in the AFC South, they have to be concerned as now they've not only lost Matt Schaub for the season, but last week sent backup Matt Leinart to the IR.

That means rookie QB T.J. Yates will get the start and the Falcons are 8-0 against rookie QBs under coach Mike Smith. If there's ever been a trend that tells it all, that one is it.

Atlanta should keep pace with the Saints, winning on the road.

Prediction: Falcons 20 Texans 13

Looking for the best NFL Handicapper? Good luck. Most of them suck.

Oakland Raiders at Miami Dolphins (-3, 43) 1:00 pm - The Raiders lead the AFC West by a game over the Broncos, but the Dolphins came within a point of winning their fourth straight, losing on Thanksgiving to the Cowboys, 20-19.

Miami's had plenty of extra time to prepare, and will be well-rested, but Matt Moore is probably not going to match Carson Palmer's productivity at quarterback and the Raider defense should be up to the task, especially in the 4th quarter. Six of Oakland's seven wins have been by seven points or fewer, so expect more of the same. They just win, baby.

Prediction: Raiders 24 Dolphins 20

Indianapolis Colts at New England Patriots (-21, 48) 1:00 pm - Well, it really doesn't get any worse than this for the Colts, or any easier for the high-flying Patriots.

Thankfully, the NFL moved this game from Sunday night to a day game in New England, which is better all around, for fans and players alike.

If this isn't a total slaughter, something's really wrong.

Prediction: Patriots 56 Colts 6

Tennessee Titans at Buffalo Bills (-1 1/2, 43) 1:00 pm - One thing about the Bills that is likable is that they refuse to quit, even when down multiple scores, something the Titans are unlikely to achieve, scoring at a rate of just 20.5 points per game.

Buffalo usually plays better at home, where the fans are close up and personal. Buffalo is 4-1 at home, 1-5 on the road, and a win here gets them back to .500. 6-5 Tennessee is just 2-3 on the road and just 3-6-1 ATS in its last 10 games on the road.

The banged-up but resolute Bills should come away with a much-needed victory.

Prediction: Bills 26 Titans 20
