Week 6 Notes:

CARNAGE: Nine Top 25 Teams Suffer Losses in Week 6

It started with the Florida Gators knocking off LSU, and the upsets continued throughout the day Saturday. Ranked #2 last week, the Tigers dropped to #12, while the Gators continued their climb, reaching #8 currently.

Iowa State pounded TCU, 37-23, so badly that the Horned Frogs fell all the way from #10 to out of the rankings. The Cyclones enter the rankings this week at #22, giving the Big 12 five schools in the Top 25.

Also from the Big 12, West Virginia remained undefeated, topping Texas, 48-45. The Longhorns fell from #8 to #18, while the Mountaineers moved up from #7 to #4.

No game was more significant, however, than South Carolina's dominating, 35-7, hammering of SEC rival, Georgia, previously undefeated, but falling all the way from #5 to #14 in the current Downtown Magazine Top 25 rankings.

Previously at #6, Florida State met its match in NC State, the Wolf Pack sending the ACC into a tizzy with their 17-16 squeaker over the Seminoles, who were sent down to #15.

The lower half of the rankings were decimated as well, wirh Ohio State running rouchshod over Nebraska, 63-38, the Cornhuskers second loss, sending them down and out of the rankings.

Northwestern's stay in the Top 25 was short-lived, as the Wildcats were ousted by Penn State, 39-28.

As expected, #2 Oregon doused Washington, 52-21, but UCLA's 43-17 defeat at the hands of Cal was not on many people's radar.

Entering the Top 25 for the first time this season were Cincinnati, Louisiana Tech, Nevada and Tulsa.

Top-ranked Alabama had the week off.
