NCAA College Football Top 25 - Week 7

--- Week 7 Notes below ---
Week 7 Notes:
South Carolina, West Virginia Knocked Out of Top 10
For West Virginia and QB Geno Smith, the task at hand this week was to outscore the Texas Tech offense, simply because the Mountaineer defense had largely failed to participate in the team's 5-0 start.
What happened down in Lubbock was complete exploitation of the West Virginia defense, while Red Raider defenders stuffed Geno Smith in a 49-14 rout. Texas Tech QB Seth Doege threw for six TDs and 499 yards. The Mountaineers fell from #4 all the way to #20, with 5-1 Texas Tech entering the rankings at #18.
The story was different for the Gamecocks, looking to upend LSU down in Death Valley, home of the Tigers, and improve to 7-0.
It looked good for three quarters, with South Carolina ahead, 14-10, but the Tigers scored two field goals and a touchdown in a five-minute span of the fourth quarter, putting the game out of reach, even though the Gamecocks came close with a TD with 1:58 left. LSU prevailed, 23-21, moved back to #10 in the rankings and dropped the Gamecocks from #3 to #11.
Other Top 25 losers were Texas, throttled by Oklahoma, 63-21, Stanford, a 20-13 loser at Notre Dame, Iowa State (lost, 27-21, to Kansas State) and Louisiana Tech, the unfortunate non-survivor of a 59-57 overtime marathon against Texas A&M.
The Bulldogs were dropped from #23, to out of the rankings, while the Aggies took over the #24 spot.
On top of the rankings, #1 Alabama had an easy time at Missouri, whipping the Tigers, 42-10. #2 Oregon has the week off.
Notre Dame took over the #3 spot, followed by USC and Kansas State at #4 and 5, respectively. Florida, Ohio State, Clemson, Louisville and LSU round out the Top 10.
