Thursday, December 6
Denver (-10 1/2, 48 1/2) at Oakland 8:20 pm - While the Broncos have already wrapped up the AFC West with a 9-3 record, the 3-9 Oakland Raiders are one of the major disappointments in the NFL this season.
Naturally, Peyton Manning is churning out touchdown passes as he usually does, already having broken the franchise single-season mark in his first year as a Bronco. The Raiders' pass defense - 25th in the league, allows 256 yards per game and has only 8 picks, somewhat guaranteeing a field day for Manning and the Bronco receivers. The Broncos trounced Oakland, 37-6, earlier in the year at home.
Oakland's lost five straight, while the Broncos have won seven in a row. Not a tough pick to make, despite the fat line to cover.
Prediction: Broncos 34 Raiders 17
Baltimore at Washington (-2, 47 1/2) 1:00 pm - This ought to be a wild one between cross-conference rivals just 40 miles apart via I-95.
Both teams are in position to vie for a playoff spot, though the Ravens are in a better spot, at 9-3 atop the AFC North, than the 6-6 Redskins.
Washington revived its season with a stunning, 17-16 defeat of the Giants on Monday night but don't have to travel and will be awaiting the Ravens who lost a tough one in Pittsburgh, 23-20, after winning four straight.
Prediction: Ravens 20 Redskins 17
Granted the Chiefs were emotionally charged-up, but reality may set in this week, though Brady Quinn appears to be the answer at QB for one of the NFL's weakest teams.
Cleveland is coming off its second straight win and first road conquest of the season, beating Oakland, 13-10. KC has covered the line in three of it last four games, Cleveland four of its last five. Three of Cleveland's four wins have been by one, three and six points, so this one figures to be close and may even fall the Chiefs' way.
Prediction: Chiefs 24 Browns 17
UPDATE: STEELERS TO START ROETHLISBERGER. Take the home team. Chargers are struggling and collapsing down the stretch.
Prediction: Steelers 27 Chargers 13
Tennessee has dropped two straight, the latest a 24-10 whipping at Texas. The Colts topped the Titans, 19-13, in week 8, and Tennessee has dropped both of their games since their bye week. Indy has a habit of winning by slim margins, and this divisional clash should prove no different.
Prediction: Colts 27 Titans 23
There's no excusing Jacksonville's 2-10 record on any grounds. They're just a bad team looking forward to the off-season, but the Jets are a team they can beat, by a tiny margin.
Prediction: Jaguars 20 Jets 17
Chicago has taken the last five meetings in this divisional rivalry, two of those wins coming at Minnesota. The Bears are tied with the Packers in the division, at 8-4, and while they can't claim a playoff spot with a win, they may eliminate a few others, including the Vikings, who would lose a tie-breaker should they lose here and eventually tie the Bears in the standings.
The Bears have been fairly consistent, the Vikings, not so much.
Prediction: Bears 27 Vikings 17
Since then, the Falcons have gone 7-1 and have already clinched the NFC South. Since that loss at Atlanta, the Panthers are 2-6, managing somehow to win both in Washington and Philadelphia.
Difficult to like a 3-9 team that lost last week to Kansas City, against one of the best teams in the league. This one could get ugly.
Prediction: Falcons 31 Panthers 20
At 6-6 the Bucs are still entertaining playoff hopes in a conference crowded with .500 teams - four of them. Tampa Bay puts forth a solid effort every time they hit the turf and they should mop up the unmotivated Eagles.
Prediction: Buccaneers 30 Eagles 14
The Rams are horrible on the road with a 1-3-1 record, while the Bills are a respectable 3-2 at home. Weather may be a factor, which could work against the Rams, who play home games indoors. Orchard Park being notorious for chilly winds, the Bills are situated to chalk up another win against a so-so opponent, their specialty.
Prediction: Bills 24 Rams 13
Arguably, the Bengals are playing superior football, having won four straight, though their 3-3 home record may be a bit deceiving, two of those losses coming against the Steelers and Broncos.
Dallas, 3-3 on the road, is as much a mystery as their overall 6-6 record implies. They've won ATS just four times this season, and are coming off a three game home stand, winning two of them, but not covering any.
The Bengals have covered all of their last four wins and should manage to keep that record going. The Bengals haven't given up more than 13 points in any of their last four games.
Prediction: Bengals 31 Dallas 10
