Thursday, October 11

Pittsburgh (-6, 42 1/2) at Tennessee 8:20 pm - Amazingly, this line is less than a touchdown, considering the Titans are just 1-4 and coming off a confidence-shattering, 30-7 loss at Minnesota.

On the other hand, Pittsburgh hasn't won on the road this season, losing at Denver and Oakland. The trend says take the Titans, because Pittsburgh is 0-5 ATS in its most recent road games.

Why not? Everbody and their brothers will be all over the Steelers here, though Jake Locker and the Titans need to get things going in a positive direction.

Prediction: Titans 23 Steelers 20

Sunday, October 14

Oakland at Atlanta (-9, 48 1/2) 1:00 pm - The Falcons are still unbeaten, having knocked off Washington Sunday, 24-17, and remain one of the best plays in the NFL, with a 4-1 record ATS.

1-4 Oakland is coming off a huge, 37-6, loss at Denver, though they play noticeably better at home, where they recorded their only win, a 34-31 beat of the Steelers on September 23.

Matt Ryan has been outstanding for the Falcons and the defense has been holding its own, but the line is exorbitant, and Oakland can keep this close with a chance to win late.

Prediction: Falcons 27 Raiders 21

Kansas City at Tampa Bay (-3, 40) 1:00 pm - Stinker of a game here with 1-4 Chiefs heading to 1-3 Tampa Bay, though both are coming off narrow defeats at home (TB lost to Washington on 9/30, 24-22; the Chiefs dropped a 9-6 decision to the Ravens this past Sunday).

While there's little to suggest that either team will generate more than token offense, Tampa Bay, having an additional week to prepare, should manage to win outright, having covered three of four games this season.

Prediction: Buccaneers 17 Chiefs 10

Indianapolis at NY Jets (-3, 42 1/2) 1:00 pm - The Jets seemed to be getting their act together in Monday's 23-17 loss to Houston, but the Colts are surprisingly 2-2, having rallied past the Packers last week for a 30-27 victory.

Andrew Luck is proving to be everything a #1 draft pick should be and more, though it will be interesting to see how the young QB handles the road after three successive home games.

The Jets will use more of Tim Tebow as the season progresses, as long as Mark Sanchez continues to miss wide open receivers. Chalk another win up for the upstart Colts.

Prediction: Colts 24 Jets 19

Cincinnati (-1, 44) at Cleveland 1:00 pm - Sure, the oddsmakers believe that the Browns are on the verge of a W, after playing a good first half against the Giants last Sunday, only to lose, 41-27.

The Bengals are the best 3-2 team in the league right now and are on the verge of breaking out and winning big. Having beaten Cleveland eight of the last ten times they've played, including the last four, Cincinnati should be able to shut down Brandon Weeden and the on/off Cleveland offense, get a turnover or two and cruise to a nice win, remaining in the hunt for the top slot in the AFC North.

Prediction: Bengals 31 Browns 21

Detroit at Philadelphia (-4 1/2, 47 1/2) 1:00 pm - Both of these teams have allowed more points than they've scored (Philly, -19, Lions, -14), but the Lions are 1-3 while the Eagles are 3-2 and tied with the Giants at the top of the NFC East standings.

The Lions have been victimized by defensive lapses in their last three games, all losses, and if they're unable to penetrate the Eagles' solid secondary, they're toast here.

Detroit is 0-5 ATS recently, while the Eagles have won both of their home games, against the Ravens and Giants. The Lions are not of that caliber and may get a rude welcome from the rising Eagles.

Prediction: Eagles 34 Lions 20

St. Louis at Miami (-3, 37 1/2) 1:00 pm - A real make or break situation for both teams exists here as the Rams are 3-2 and the Dolphins, 2-3.

Both teams have horrible ATS records the past few seasons, and have not met since 2008, so there are no trends upon which to rely.

The Rams come off a 17-3 win over Arizona, handing the Cardinals their first loss of the season, last Thursday, but Miami's 17-13 win at Cincinnati was an improved effort. Since losing at Houston, 30-10, the fish have lost twice, to the Jets and at Arizona, both games decided by a mere three points.

Give the Dolphins a fair shake as they get back home after two weeks on the road.

Prediction: Dolphins 20 Rams 10

Dallas at Baltimore (-3 1/2, 44) 1:00 pm - Last Sunday's 9-6 win by the Ravens at Kansas City may have been a blip on the Baltimore radar, but Dallas' 34-18 loss on Monday night, 10/1, is a cause for concern.

Dallas, at 2-2, runs hot and cold, but they may turn up hot in Baltimore and shock the world because they have proven to be as good as any team in the league when they're right.

Neither team has covered in their last three games, though the Ravens have won all three while Dallas went 1-2. The Cowboys are as good as Tony Romo is, and he should bounce back well after some extra time off.

Prediction: Cowboys 27 Ravens 24
