Are Americans Afraid, Stupid or Preoccupied?
Judy Stillson | 8/26/05

Once, the United States of America was a beacon of light and hope for the entire world. That seems like so long ago, as we trudge through the second term of George W. Bush, arguably the worst president in the history of the United States, and his equally horrible War on Iraq, War on Terror, War on the Sensibilities of Peace-loving People worldwide.

Bush, who didn't win the 2000 election (the official recount of Florida's vote showed that Al Gore had won) and probably stole the 2004 election (the accounts of vote-rigging, disfranchisement and irregularities in Ohio, Florida and elsewhere have been widely reported), has given the United States a black eye in the world community.

In the nearly five years in which we've been subjected to the secretive, corporate-loving, freedom-hating policies of George W. Bush and his evil henchmen - Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice, Rove, et. al. - we've endured the loss of millions of good-paying jobs, the greatest and most vicious attack on our shores in our history (9/11), enormous budget deficits, a seemingly lost war in Iraq and a failure in Afghanistan (weren't we originally going there to capture or kill Osama bin Laden?), sky high gas prices and lies, lies, scandals and more lies.

The American public is displaying either the most massive collective stupidity of any people in the history of the world or we've become the most cowardly or preoccupied people ever because we allow our leaders (what a misnomer that is!) to stomp on our rights and liberties, scare us half to death with threats of bogeymen dressed as Arabs, and steal the fortune of our nation.

If you think my prattling on about this is over the top, it's time you took a look around. Iraq is an absolute failure and we've sacrificed nearly 2000 of our good young people in the effort. Our economy isn't creating enough jobs to replace the ones we've lost and the new jobs are nearly all low-paying, service-oriented or entry level at Wal-Mart.

Bush and company seem to be able to do and say whatever they please without even a peep from the public. Maybe the media has let us down, but I think it's high time we inspect our "elected" officials and find out what their real agenda is.

My suspicion is that they are not and have not been working for the benefit of all Americans, only the ones they choose - the rich, fat, corporate bosses who contribute to their campaigns.

Speak out, America, while we still have time.
