THINK ABOUT IT. You pay for a newspaper, cable TV isn't free and now there are even subscription stations on satellite radio. On the web, where information can be transmitted worldwide instantaneously by anyone, people just assume it's free. Some web sites have begun charging for access or forcing you to view ads to get to their content, or charging a monthly or annual fee for their premium content. We don't want to do any of those things. We want to keep our information free, so we put ads on our pages, but internet ad rates are incredibly low, so they don't cover all of the expense of keeping and updating a web site. In response, we are offering readers the opportunity to help keep independent media - and we need independent sources more than ever today - growing and gaining on the mainstream, corporate-controlled press.
