3:30 pm Tulsa (-3 1/2, 56) at Houston - Some skeptics say that Tulsa is the best team in the state of Oklahoma, and while that's a haughty claim, there is somewhat of an argument. The Golden Hurricanes are in the top 20 in most offensive and defensive categories, while the Houston Cougars vie with them for the top spot in the Conference-USA West.

After nearly knocking off Miami on Sept. 30, losing 14-13, the Cougars followed up with flops against Louisiana-Lafayette and Southern Miss, both losses. They regrouped with wins over UTEP and UCF, but Tulsa is another story altogether.

Tulsa's only loss of the season was to Brigham Young, and that was nearly two months ago. They've reeled off six straight wins and should shred Houston's porous defense, which is allowing 23 ppg against questionable competition.

Prediction: Golden Hurricane 34 Cougars 14

3:30 pm LSU (-3, 44 1/2) at Tennessee - The Volunteers certainly aren't getting much love or respect in the heady SEC. Here they are with just a one-point loss to Florida blemishing their 7-1 record, they're ranked 8th in the nation by the AP, yet they're underdogs at home according to the wise guys in Las Vegas.

There's plenty to like about the Vols, who have won 3 straight SEC games following the Florida loss, topping Georgia, Alabama and South Carolina.

LSU has failed in both of their big SEC tests - to Auburn and Florida - and are just 2-2 in the conference with wins over pushovers Kentucky and Miss. State. Last week the hammered Fresno State, 38-6. Big deal. The Bulldogs are 1-6.

The Tigers seem capable of kicking around weaker opponents but unable to win against solid, ranked teams. Tennessee will make sure that trend continues.

Prediction: Volunteers 24 Tigers 16

7:00 pm Boston College (-4, 39 1/2) at Wake Forest - Believe it or not, this is a monster game in the ACC. While BC figured to have a ranked team this season, the Deacons kind of snuck up on the league and at 3-1 in conference are tied with BC and Maryland for 1st place in the Atlantic division.

While Boston College has won important games against Clemson, Florida State and Virginia Tech, Wake's only big game resulted in a 27-17 home loss to Clemson. Looks like the end of the road for the good, but not great Demon Deacons.

Prediction: Eagles 27 Demon Deacons 10

7:00 pm Oklahoma St. at Texas (-17, 63) - The Texas Longhorns are looking a bit vulnerable as the Big 12 season plods along. After escaping Nebraska 22-20, they had to rally from 21 points down to defeat a game Texas Tech squad last weekend, 35-31.

Those two games were on the road, so the Longhorns should be happy to be back in more comfortable surroundings and will be well prepped for this game.

The Cowboys aren't going to be easy pickings, especially coming off a 41-28 upset over Nebraska last week. While Texas averages 39.8 ppg, the Cowboys are right with them at 37.9 and the Texas defense hasn't been exactly stopping anybody lately. In their last three wins they've allowed 82 points.

Unless Texas tightens up the D in a hurry, they're not going to win this game easily, though they seem to have enough fire-power to overcome the potent Oklahoma St. offense.

Prediction: Longhorns 41 Cowboys 35

7:45 pm Arkansas (-2 1/2, 45 1/2) at South Carolina - There's going to be some fierce hitting in this one. Both of these teams are extremely physical and love to hammer opponents into submission.

Arkansas especially has a propensity for shutting down opposing offenses. After giving up 50 points in their opener to USC, they've allowed only 62 points in their following 6 games, and they seem to be just getting started. They allowed Auburn only 10, in one of the more lopsided SE upsets of the season, and held Mississippi to a lonely field goal in their most recent SEC clash.

The Gamecocks can play with anybody in the conference; trouble is, there are so many good teams in the SEC, South Carolina just comes up short more often than not. Their three losses were to Georgia (18-0), Auburn (24-17) and last week to Tennessee (31-24). Their defense is good but not great and the offense seems to be capable, but Arkansas is just too good and playing at a level heads-and-shoulders above everyone else.

Prediction: Razorbacks 24 Gamecocks 13

8:00 pm Oklahoma (-2, 48 1/2) at Texas A&M - The Sooners have overcome great obstacles this season to compile a 6-2 record, national Top 25 ranking and a slim shot at the Big 12 South division. Their loss to Texas pretty much derailed conference aspirations, but Oklahoma lost QB Rhett Bomar preseason, then Heisman candidate Adrian Peterson went down for the season three weeks ago against Iowa State.

Still, the Sooners pushed forward, but this could be their Waterloo.

The Aggies have a pretty good 7-1 team in their own right, their only loss to Texas Tech, a team which proved their mettle once again last week by almost beating Texas. This is the best A&M team in some time and they are likely looking ahead to a November 24 clash with the Longhorns which could earn them a trip to the Big 12 championship game.

Aggies' QB Stephen McGee has thrown for 1753 yards and 11 TDs with just one INT. His leadership on offense should carry A & M to another win.

Prediction: Aggies 28 Sooners 24

8:00 pm Virginia Tech (-2 1/2, 37 1/2) at Miami (FL) - The Hurricanes simply are not the same dominant team the ACC used to fear. They've lost to Georgia Tech, Louisville and Florida State and for South Floridians, bowl expectations have not been met. The team and coach Coker have been under a microscope all season and a loss here might accelerate Coker's departure, which seems to be nearly certain.

The Hokies have gotten themselves back together after back-to-back losses to Georgia Tech and Boston College with consecutive wins over Southern Miss. and Clemson. The win over the Tigers last weekend was especially impressive, a decisive 24-7 thumping.

Virginia Tech has everything going in the right direction and should handle the one-dimensional Miami offense, which depends entirely too much on the arm of QB Kyle Wright.

Prediction: Hokies 24 Hurricanes 13
