3:30 pm Georgia Tech at Georgia (-2, 42.5) - The Bulldogs of Georgia have had one of the more eventful up-and-down seasons of any team in America. In addition to losses to Florida and Tennessee, they dropped decisions to Vandy and Kentucky before springing the upset on Auburn, 37-15, on Nov. 11.

The trouble for the Bulldogs has been sustaining offense, because the defense is pretty good.

Georgia Tech shares the same problem, but at 9-2, have only one lopsided loss - that a 31-7 shellacking at Clemson on October 21. Their other loss was to Notre Dame, 14-10 in the season opener.

The Yellow Jackets have won four straight and seek to avenge last season's 14-7 loss to Georgia and secure a solid bowl appearance.

Prediction: Yellow Jackets 21 Bulldogs 18

4:00 pm Boise St. (-3, 57) at Nevada - Boise State has already clinched the WAC title, but Nevada has been knocking on the door and they get the Broncos in the Silver State this time. This should be a pretty entertaining contest as both teams can really light it up. Boise seems to have a bit of defense going for them, plus a win here secures a 12-0 record and arguing rights to a shot at the national championship. Everyone in the mountains of the West understand that's never going to happen, but a BCS bowl could be in the offing for the Broncos.

Winning at Nevada is not a foregone conclusion, however. The Wolf Pack has plenty of momentum. They've won 5 straight, scoring 42 or more in each of the last 4 and registering back-to-back 42-0 scores in their last two, over Utah State and Louisiana Tech.

Prediction: Broncos 34 Wolf Pack 30

7:45 pm Wake Forest at Maryland (-1, 40) - The Terrapins were exposed last week by Boston College as the offense fumbled away a shot at the ACC title game in a 38-16 loss. Wake Forest likewise met their match as Virginia Tech humbled them 27-6.

Maryland's five conference wins have been by a total of 13 points, while their two losses have been by 4 and 22. The Terps, who don't possess much offensive punch, need to play nearly flawless football if they hope to derail the Demon Deacons, but Wake has an overall speed advantage which should propel them to victory.

Prediction: Demon Deacons 23 Terrapins 13

8:00 pm Notre Dame at USC (-7, 57) - This is one of the more important games of the weekend in terms of rankings and probable bowl match-ups. The Trojans sleep-walked through an important 23-9 win over Cal, while Notre Dame was polishing off punchless Army 41-9.

If USC wins, they have a legitimate argument for a #2 ranking in the BCS and would need to only defeat UCLA next week to get a shot at the Buckeyes. A Notre Dame win would certainly boost the Irish's chances, though there's no chance of them vaulting past Michigan, who beat them soundly back in September.

The Trojans may have the best defense in the West and they'll need all of their players to step up against the pass-happy Irish, who have scored 31 or more in 8 of their 10 wins this season. Many of the Notre Dame players return to avenge last year's thrilling 34-31 USC win at South Bend, notably QB Brady Quinn, WR Jeff Samardzija, S Tom Zbikowski and RB Darius Walker. It may not rival last year's classic, but a close game is in store as Quinn and the Fighting Irish are a force to reckon with.

Prediction: Notre Dame 31 USC 30

11:05 pm Purdue at Hawaii (-17, 75) - Purdue can put up points efficiently, though not quite as well as Hawaii (tops at 49.2 per game). The real stat is on defense, where the Boilermakers are allowing 414 yards per game to the islanders' 373.

High totals for Purdue are 60 against Indiana State, 38 each against Ball St. and Miami (OH) and 42 at Illinois. Hawaii will present them with ample scoring opportunities, though Purdue will not likely be capable of stopping the opposing offense very often. A high-scoring affair is in the cards, or waves, so to speak.

Prediction: Rainbow Warriors 54 Boilermakers 28
