4:05 pm Detroit at Arizona (-2.5, 45.5) - The Lions looked pretty good coming off their bye week, beating Atlanta, but then they followed that up by losing to San Francisco, 19-13. They really are as bad as their 2-7 record suggests.
Arizona may be worse, however, with their losing streak closing in on double digits, currently at 8. They were in some close games earlier in the season, especially when they almost upset the Bears, but since that game their losses have been by 13, 17 and 17. They are not very good and Dennis Green needs to go. His coaching style leads teams into black holes and the Cardinals are plummeting into the NFL abyss.
Prediction: Lions 28 Cardinals 13
The Seahawks, who last week wrested away control of 1st place in the NFC West with a 24-22 win over St. Louis, aren't about to lose to the feeble 49ers, who, despite winning their 4th game of the season at Detroit 19-13 last week, are still among the NFL's dregs.
The 'Niners have won against questionable teams - Oakland, Minnesota, Detroit and St. Louis - but have been beaten senseless by the likes of Philly, Kansas City, San Diego and Chicago. If Hasselbeck and Alexander return effectively, this will be a rout. Even if both stars are sidelined, it still could be ugly.
Prediction: Seahawks 30 49ers 17
Working against the Colts are injuries to receiver Brandon Stokley and safety Bob Sanders, who are both listed as questionable. Indy can live without Stokley, but not without the hard-hitting Sanders. He's a real difference maker and if he's not 100% his play could hurt Indy's chances of going 10-0.
For Bill Parcells and the 5-4 Cowboys, every game presents a must-win situation as they are in the midst of a divisional dogfight with Philly and the Giants and they really don't have any breaks on the schedule until the last weekend when they host Detroit.
Since Tony Romo has replaced Drew Bledsoe as the starting QB, the Cowboys have been a different team, their only loss a fluky 22-19 decision at Washington which turned on the last two plays of the game. The Cowboys have gotten through the rough patch - 3 straight road games - with a pair of wins and are ready to rock. The Colts' streak ends right here.
Prediction: Cowboys 31 Colts 28
This is the first of two meetings between these AFC West foes. They reunite in San Diego on December 10, but this one is put-up-or-shut-up for the present and has major implications for playoff seeding. It's very simple as the two teams possess dramatically different styles. Take your pick: Denver's defense or San Diego's offense.
This one is leaning towards the offensive side. Phillip Rivers is having an MVP-like season, completing 66% of his passes for 2085 yards, 13 TDs and only 3 picks. He's proven himself and, with some help from a certain LaDainian Tomlinson, will lead the Chargers to the top.
Prediction: Chargers 37 Broncos 28
8:30 pm NY Giants at Jacksonville (-3, 39) - The Giants can't be faulted for losing to the Bears last Sunday night in the Meadowlands. The boys from Chicago put on a performance deserving of awards in the 2nd half and took it to the G-Men in every way imaginable.
Don't expect New York to even think twice about the loss. Coach Coughlin has a remarkable ability to focus on the positive and the task at hand, which is to get back on the winning track against the 5-4 Jaguars.
The Jags will have to win this one with their defense, a heady task against the Giants, who rank 9th in the league in scoring offense at 23.8 per game. Surprisingly, the Jaguars aren't far back, at 20.6, though a lot of that has to do with a pair of blowout wins over the Jets and Titans. Generally speaking, Jacksonville's offense is only good for between 13 and 20 points per game, while the defense (3rd at 14.1 ppg) does most of the heavy lifting. Jacksonville has a very capable defense and the Giants are a little banged up defensively, which makes the Jags the pick to hold serve here.
Prediction: Jaguars 24 Giants 20
