Week 10 Results: Coin: 8-6 Rick: 10-4
Cumulative: Coin: 61-71-3 Rick: 71-61-3

Thursday, November 10

7:30 pm North Carolina (-11, 65) at Duke - Obviously, this would be a better game if the sport were basketball, but at least the rivalry is a strong one between two top ACC schools from the great state (went for Trump) of North Carolina.

The 7-2 Tar Heels have proven to be a tough team that can win close games and, at times, make powerful defensive statements. Duke has not fared well, lost some close ones and may pack it in early here. A solid fourth quarter would assure that the Tar Heels prevail by an expanding margin.

Coin Flip: North Carolina

Rick's Pick: Tar Heels 38 Blue Devils 21

9:30 pm Utah (-5 1/2, 54 1/2) at Arizona State - Here's another road test that could turn in favor of the home team. While the Utes have done well at home (4-1, the sole defeat their last game, to Washington, 31-24), one of their two other losses was at Cal, a 28-23 stunner. Utah won at Oregon State by five and at UCLA by seven, so there's reason to believe the Sun Devils could pull off the upset. They're 4-1 at home, the only home loss on October 22nd, a 37-32 defeat by Washington State.

Coin Flip: Arizona State

Rick's Pick: Sun Devils 30 Utes 26

Friday, November 11

7:30 pm Boston College at Florida State (-21, 48 1/2) - For the Eagles, this is an opportunity to prove themselves in front of a national audience. For them, a win over the Seminoles would put a positive stamp on their otherwise negative season.

Unfortunately, Florida State is a far superior team, with better athletes, better coaching and home field. BC is offensively challenged (19.4 ppg, tied with Rutgers at #122 of 128), to say the least. The BC players and coaches will get a taste of some warm weather but not even come close to a victory.

Coin Flip: Florida State

Rick's Pick: Seminoles 45 Eagles 10

Saturday, November 12

12:00 pm West Virginia at Texas (-2 1/2, 64) - Nice way to start off a November Saturday, with a rousing good time from two of the better Big 12 teams, all of which are chasing Oklahoma in the standings. For their part, the Longhorns better hope that their offense is keyed into the schemes of the Mountaineers, because West Virginia has one of the better defenses in the conference, while Texas offers little resistance. West Va. is ranked #20 nationally, allowing 20.6 ppg.

While this could be a close call because Texas has continued to improve, West Virginia has been solid most of the season. The 7-1 Mountaineers are 1-1 on the road this season.

Coin Flip: West Virginia

Rick's Pick: Mountaineers 24 Longhorns 17

12:00 pm Baylor at Oklahoma (-15, 80 1/2) - There's a couple of reasons to like the Sooners here, one of them being their unbeaten record in the Big 12, another being home field, and further, Baylor's poor showing against TCU last week, in a 62-22 blowout loss. The Sooners have the ability to play stern defense, though they haven't shown it much, but this game is large in determining bowl placement, so expect Oklahoma to put on a good show.

Coin Flip: Baylor

Rick's Pick: Sooners 45 Bears 23

12:00 pm Penn State (-6 1/2, 58 1/2) at Indiana - A pleasant surprise has been the play of the Nittany Lions this season, and they should not underestimate the potential for a strong game from the Hoosiers, who have put together some respectable performances this season.

In the end, however, Penn State appears to be on the cusp of a return to national prominence. They won't be in the national championship discussion this season, but one can see vast improvement and solid recruiting ahead. This game will serve as a springboard to better things.

Coin Flip: Penn State

Rick's Pick: Nittany Lions 38 Hoosiers 28
