7:00 pm Arkansas at TCU (-7 1/2, 58 1/2) - Nah! TCU isn't as good as people down in the Lone Star State would have you believe. Besides, the Razorbacks are coming off a very successful 8-5 season in 2016 and should find a way to do better than their scary, 21-20, win over LA Tech last week.

For the Horned Frogs, defensive players probably had to run extra laps for allowing South Dakota State to score 41 points. Still, the Frogs managed to win by 18, but this may be different.

Coin Flip: Arkansas

Prediction: Razorbacks 26 Horned Frogs 23

7;30 pm Iowa State at Iowa (-15, 51) - Annual in-state clash usually goes to the home team, and, since Iowa is both home and last season's Big Ten West champion, that's enough for us.

Coin Flip:

Prediction: Hawkeyes 38 Cyclones 10

7:30 BYU at Utah (-3 1/2, 45) - This is the big time in Utah. Even though the Cougars have chosen the independent route, they still get a shot at their top recruitment competitor.

Tough to gauge, but the Utes should get the edge. They were a serious contender in the PAC-12 last season and will be looking for more in 2016.

Coin Flip: Utah

Prediction: Utes 27 Cougars 20

Virginia Tech at Tennessee (-11 1/2, 54 1/2) - Don't be put off by Tennessee's close call last week against Appalachian State. They played a tough-minded team bent on the upset and beat them.

Tech was up and down all of last season, finishing with a 7-6 record overall, but will be on the ropes against a solid Vols defense and an offense which should improve as the season progresses.

Coin Flip: Tennessee

Prediction: Volunteers 41 Hokies 20

Virginia at Oregon (-24 1/2, 70 1/2) - Why does Virginia always schedule such tough opponents early in the season? Is it a mental toughening exercise? In any case, they didn't do themselves much harm in scheduling the 24th-ranked Ducks, unless, of course, they get blown away.

Since the Ducks aren't exactly national contenders this season and Virginia already has proven they don't have a clue following a season-opening, 37-20, loss to Richmond (who knew the Spiders played football?), it would be easy to go the wrong way here, and, from where we sit, either way is the wrong way in a late-night, nothing-matters contest.

Coin Flip: Oregon

Prediction: Ducks 42 Cavaliers 30
