8:00 pm Connecticut at Houston (-28, 50) - The Huskies cam within a whisker of defeating Syracuse last week but ended up on the wrong side of a 28-24 decision and stand at 2-0 on the season. The Huskies have scored the fewest points in the American Athletic Conference expect for SMU, which hasn't played a conference game yet.
Houston has scored 179 points in four games, second in the conference to South Florida (184), and they've allowed just 42. Unless the Huskies have some magic formula, this looks like an absolute blowout.
Coin Flip: Houston
Prediction: Cougars 48 Huskies 14
One thing lacking from this game will be defense. Neither team is very proficient at stopping anybody, so expect Kansas to score more than usual, thus the points may be crucial. Could be the highest-scoring game of the season.
Coin Flip: Kansas
Prediction: Red Raiders 65 Jayhawks 48
9:00 pm Stanford at Washington (-2 1/2, 44) - PAC-12 fans should be looking forward to what is shaping up to be an excellent match-up between two top 10 teams (Stanford is #7; Washington, #10). Neither team has lost yet, so something has to give here, and considering that the Vegas sharpies have made the Huskies a favorite at home, that should be a good indicator of how this game will go. Not to be missed.
Coin Flip: Stanford
Prediction: Huskies 26 Cardinal 19
The Rockets can score and are well coached on defense, a combination that should prove tough to beat.
Coin Flip: Toledo
Prediction: Rockets 28 Cougars 20
12:00 pm Florida (-10, 41) at Vanderbilt - One of a few key SEC games on the day has the Gators smarting from their 38-28 loss at Tennessee last week, though they remain a top 25 team in the current poll at 3-1.
As usual, Vandy is not competitive against ranked opponents. Their two wins this season were against Middle Tennessee (47-24) and Western Kentucky (31-30 OT). Even though they're at home the Gators offer too many challenges and a stiff defense that should hold the Commodores to less than three scores. Last season's 9-7 Florida win can be viewed with knowledge that the Gators were a pretty banged-up bunch nearing the end of last season, so it's not indicative of the more solid roster in Florida today.
Coin Flip: Florida
Prediction: Gators 38 Commodores 17
2-2 Oklahoma State is balanced, but not quite in the upper echelon of the Big 12, though a win here could help their cause. They played well in last week's 35-24 loss at Baylor, so being back at home provides another edge.
Coin Flip: Texas
Prediction: Cowboys 35 Longhorns 30

WEEK 5 NCAA Football Picks
Cumulative: Coin: 26-31 Rick: 32-25
8:30 pm Kansas at Texas Tech (28 1/2, 80) - Last season, these two met at Kansas, resulting in a 30-20 win for the Red Raiders. Obviously, from the way Tech is throwing the ball around (they've scored 69, 55, and 59 while going 2-1), that may be the score at halftime.
Friday, September 30
10:15 pm Toledo at BYU (-4, 52) - The strong point for BYU has been its defense, but they're now 1-3 after falling to West Virginia last week, 35-32, so they can be had. Toledo is always dangerous no matter where they play and they're proven to be excellent on the road (5-0 last season).
Saturday, October 1
12:00 pm Texas at Oklahoma State (-2 1/2, 71 1/2) - The Longhorns knocked off Notre Dame in their season opener, but that may prove to be not much about which to brag as the Irish went down to Duke last week, not exactly a national powerhouse.
