Fearless Rick's NFL Football Picks - Week 10 early games
All times Eastern
Byes: Buffalo, Detroit, Indianapolis, Oakland
Week 9 Results: Coin: 11-1-1; Rick: 5-7-1
Thursday, November 10
Cleveland at Baltimore (-10, 45), 8:25 (NFLN) - Cleveland is no good at home and no good on the road, so this looks like loss number 10 for the Mistake by the Lake. The Ravens happen to play their games very close to Chesapeake Bay, so it should seem just like home to the not-so-lovable losers from Ohio.
The importance of Baltimore's win over Pittsburgh last week cannot be understated. They are now firmly in the race for the AFC North. This being a divisional game and the second straight home game, the Ravens look like winners.
Coin Flip: Cleveland
Rick's Pick: Ravens 31 Browns 20
Kansas City at Carolina (-3, 44 1/2), 1:00 pm (CBS) - Both teams are coming off wins, but neither covered the line last week, as KC won at home over Jacksonville, 19-14, but the line was -8. The Panthers allowed a very, very late fourth quarter TD by the Rams to squeak by on the road by three points, matching the spread, 13-10.
This figures to be a close, defensive battle, with a slight edge for the Panthers at home, but a determined effort by the Chiefs, plus the points, may be the better path to follow.
Coin Flip: Carolina
Rick's Pick: Chiefs 20 Panthers 19
The Jaguars hung in well enough at KC to cover the line but still lose, 19-14, proving that even though they are a losing franchise, they're on the improve. Houston is not exactly a world-beater, but they should be good enough to get the road victory.
Coin Flip: Jacksonville
Rick's Pick: Texans 27 Jaguars 14
Badly outplayed Sunday night by the Raiders, the Broncos must take to the road for the second straight week, a tall order. Despite their defensive prowess, the Saints will score more than Denver's offense can, resulting in another disappointment for Denver fans. That odor you sense is the faint scent of overtime, a distinct possibility here.
Coin Flip: Denver
Rick's Pick: Saints 24 Broncos 21
Coin Flip: NY Jets
Rick's Pick: Jets 13 Rams 9
The Falcons dispatched with Tampa Bay easily enough last Thursday, giving them additional time to rest up and prep for this important contest. Road wins are tough to come by, but the Falcons have proven they can win anywhere except Seattle, where they suffered their lone road loss of the season in five games (4-1), losing a tear-jerker, 26-24.
Coin Flip: Atlanta
Rick's Pick: Falcons 31 Eagles 24
Tampa Bay is very unstable defensively and mistake-prone on offense, a one-two whammy that should land the Bears in the winner's circle. The Bucs have not won a home game this season (0-4).
Coin Flip: Bears
Rick's Pick: Bears 26 Buccaneers 19
Tennessee simply allows too many scores, making the Packers a serious choice in an away game they can and should win.
Coin Flip: Green Bay
Rick's Pick: Packers 34 Titans 24
Coin Flip: Washington
Rick's Pick: Redskins 21 Vikings 13

WEEK 10 NFL Picks
Cumulative: Coin: 56-60-3; Rick: 59-57-3
Sunday, November 13
Houston (-1 1/2, 42 1/2) at Jacksonville, 1:00 pm (CBS) - While Houston was resting up, the Jags and Titans lost, while the Colts surprised the Packers at Green Bay, leaving the Texans all alone at the top with a 5-3 mark. The Colts and Titans are 4-5 through week 9. The Jags are out of it at 2-6.
Denver at New Orleans (-1 1/2, 48 1/2), 1:00 pm (CBS) - Oddly enough, the reigning world champion Broncos are going to be severely tested against a Saints squad that has managed to find their mojo and has a significant offensive edge, especially at home.
Los Angeles at NY Jets (-2 1/2, 41), 1:00 pm (FOX) - As both teams are solid defensively but significantly challenged on offense, the final score could be a total under twenty points. Neither team has any realistic post-season hope, so this won't get much national attention, but the Jets probably have enough of an edge at home to eke out a win.
Atlanta at Philadelphia (even, 49 1/2), 1:00 pm (FOX) - Parlaying third and fourth down failures into a 28-23 road loss against the Giants last week, the Eagles will have to play with more poise and confidence in order to defeat the Falcons, who are flying toward the title in the NFC South division.
Chicago at Tampa Bay (-1 1/2, 42), 1:00 pm (FOX) - Revitalized with Jay Cutler back behind center and a week off after upsetting the Vikings on Halloween, one concern the Bears may have is dealing with the change in temperature in sunny Florida though weather in Chicago has not been very chilly, so it may not matter much in the larger scheme of things.
Green Bay (-2 1/2, 49) at Tennessee, 1:00 pm (FOX) - The Packers have problems, having lost at home to the Colts last week, but they're very much alive in the NFC North division, since Minnesota and Detroit - the main contenders - each appear vulnerable.
Minnesota at Washington (-2 1/2, 42 1/2), 1:00 pm (FOX) - Coming off a bye week with a chance to make progress in the NFC East, the Redskins should handle whatever the Vikings can offer. While Washington is not overwhelming or overpowering in any aspect, they are one of the more balanced teams in the league. On the flip side, the Vikings, losers of three straight, are stressing out on both sides of the ball, but mainly on offense, where Sam Bradford has apparently hit a wall (about all he can hit with a thrown football).
