NFL Preseason Week 3 Late Games
All times Eastern
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-4, 36 1/2) at Houston Texans, 8:00 pm - Tom Brady underwent knee surgery in the off-season, so it's highly unlikely he'll see any preseason action. The Bucs are 0-2, having scored just 17 points while allowing 53. Most of their starters have not played at all this preseason.
Houston improved to 2-0 with a 20-14 win over the Cowboys last week and appear to have shed the frustration of last season's 4-12 mark. They should be motivated to play the league champions and keep this one close or win outright.
Coin Flip: Tampa Bay
Prediction: Texans 20 Buccaneers 17
It's a big boost for Winston and should prove a settling influence for the Saints.
There's no question marks in Arizona. Kyler Murray is the starter and will probably play the first half of this contest, which should be a good one. Both teams are 1-1.
Coin Flip: Arizona
Prediction: Saints 30 Cardinals 27
The Rams traded Jared Goff for Matthew Stafford, who brings experience to the QB position, but so far, he hasn't been on the field in either of the Rams' games, both losses. He won't get on the field here either, leaving Bryce Perkins to handle the work load.
Denver is heavily favored because their triumvirate of quarterbacks - Teddy Bridgewater, Drew Lock, and Brett Rypien - have all played well in Denver's wins. Bridgewater was named starter for the regular season by coach Vic Fangio and will start here.
Coin Flip: Los Angeles Rams
Prediction: Broncos 28 Rams 10
Conversely, there's been lots of grumbling in Seattle, especially after their subs were drubbed, 30-3, by Denver. QB Russell Wilson hasn't been on the field yet though there's a good chance he'll be behind center when the Seahawks line up on offense, at least for the first half.
This game is a complete toss-up, so taking the points may be a prudent action.
Coin Flip: Seattle
Prediction: Chargers 34 Seahawks 25
Jacksonville Jaguars (-3, 36 1/2) at Dallas Cowboys, 1:00 pm - Still no sign of Dak Prescott, though he's at least practicing with the full first team. He won't play in this game, the Cowboys keeping him under wraps until week one of the regular season, at Tampa Bay, Thursday, September 9. Dallas is 0-3 and hasn't looked good in any of their games.
Jacksonville nearly erased a 23-3 deficit with 18 fourth quarter points in a 23-21 loss at New Orleans Monday night, and they'll have top draft pick, Trevor Lawrence taking snaps at the open and likely through the first half. The #1 draft pick was 14-23 for 113 yards against the Saints and is the likely starter for the Jags this season. Cowboys looking like an 0-4 preseason squad.
Coin Flip: Dallas
Prediction: Jaguars 23 Cowboys 13
The Dolphins thumped Atlanta last week, 37-17, while the Bengals fell to Washington, 17-13. They're 1-1. Miami is the same. They lost to Chicago, 20-13, in the first week.
Coin Flip: Miami
Prediction: Dolphins 17 Bengals 13
Coin Flip: San Francisco
Prediction: Raiders 24 49ers 21
Both Cam Newton and Mac Jones will get playing time for New England. Both - but especially Jones - have looked ready for the regular season. The Giants' defense has allowed only 29 points, but scored just 20. The Pats have allowed just 13 points and put up 57. Impressive.
Coin Flip: New England
Prediction: Patriots 26 Giants 16
It doesn't matter who plays, though most teams are getting their starters in for much of the first halves. Cleveland won't play Baker Mayfield as he's too important to the team's success. Cleveland has a talent edge across the board and should win handily.
Coin Flip: Cleveland
Prediction: Browns 30 Falcons 10

Arizona Cardinals at New Orleans Saints (-3 1/2, 34 1/2), 8:00 pm - New Orleans updated their depth chart after holding on for a 23-21 win over Jacksonville Monday night, and Jameis Winston is the new starting QB, replacing retired Drew Brees. Taysom Hill takes the backup role, followed by Trevor Siemian and rookie Ian Book (Norte Dame).
Los Angeles Rams at Denver Broncos (-8 1/2, 33 1/2), 9:05 pm - Denver holds the league's best point differential at +54, scoring a league-high 63 points in two games, allowing only 9.
Los Angeles Chargers at Seattle Seahawks(-6, 35 1/2), 10:00 pm - Justin Herbert has been getting accolades across the league and he's going to be the starter here in all likelihood.
Sunday, August 29
Miami Dolphins (-1 1/2, 35 1/2) at Cincinnati Bengals (CBS), 4:00 pm - Nationally televised game should bring out the best of Miami's Tua Tagovailoa and Cincy's Joe Burrow, making his first on-field appearance after last season's knee injury. Burrow won't likely be on the field for long, giving the Dolphins an edge.
Las Vegas Raiders at San Francisco 49ers (-3 1/2, 35 1/2), 4:00 pm - These are two teams from difference conferences with much in common. Both missed the playoffs last season but are among contenders for the 2021 post-season. Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance will likely each play a half for the 'Niners, and Derek Carr will be behind center for the Raiders in the first half as well. Nathan Peterman, the Raiders' only other healthy QB, will get more work. Peterman played the entirety of both Raider wins.
New England Patriots (-3, 35 1/2) at New York Giants, 6:00 pm - Daniel Jones will make his only preseason appearance, expected to take snaps for at least the first half, accord to coach Joe Judge, RB Shaquon Barkley and WR Kenny Golladay are still question marks for the game. Giants are 0-2 after losses to the Jets and Browns.
Cleveland Browns (-5 1/2, 36) at Atlanta Falcons (NBC), 8:00 pm - The 0-2 Falcons have allowed 60 preseason points and scored only 20. On the flip side, the Browns are 2-0, scoring 40 while allowing 26.
