Week 7 Results: Rick: 6-9; Coin: 7-8
Bye: Detroit Lions, Seattle Seahawks, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Washington Football Team
NY Jets at Indianapolis Colts (-10 1/2, 46 1/2) 8:20 pm - Getting his first NFL start, Mike White made the most of it, completing 37 of 45 tosses for 405 yards, 3 TD, 2 INT, in the Jets' 34-31 win over visiting Cincinnati. Yes, he out-dueled the great Joe Burrow and even caught a TD pass himself.
Non-believers are making the Jets a 10-point underdog on the road Thursday night. White, drafted in the fifth round in 2018 out of Western Kentucky by Dallas, will get plenty of help from his offensive and defensive lines.
The line says the 3-5 Colts, with wins over Miami, Houston, and San Francisco, are much better than the 2-5 Jets. White gives the Jets a huge emotional boost.
Coin Flip: Indianapolis
Prediction: Jets 30 Colts 24
Minnesota Vikings at Baltimore Ravens (-5 1/2., 49 1/2) 1:00 pm - After proving they are complete trash by losing to the Cowboys (without Dak Prescott) last Sunday, the Minnesota offense should be under arrest for impersonating football players. A touchdown and three field goals was all Kirk Cousins and his fellow inmates could produce.
The Vikings had eight possessions of five plays or fewer. Coming off a bye week and at home, Baltimore is going to romp them.
Coin Flip: Minnesota
Prediction: Ravens 42 Vikings 10
Carolina, also 4-4, snapped a four game losing streak by slipping past Atlanta last week, 19-13. The Panthers defense allows 19.9 points per game. The Patriots are right there, at 20.5. Offensively, the Patriots rank #10 in points scored, at 25.8, while the Panthers are #22 (20.6) and have scored 18, 28, 3, and 19 points in their last four games (17 ppg).
Coin Flip: New England
Prediction: Patriots 31 Panthers 17
The Bengals recent odyssey of three straight road games ended last Sunday with a loss in NY to the Jets, 34-31, so getting back to the "Natty" should be a positive. Bengals get a bye after this, and they'll probably need it as the next three opponents are the Raiders, Steelers, and Chargers. This figures to be a thriller right down to the wire.
Coin Flip: Cleveland
Prediction: Browns 34 Bengals 31
Denver ended a four-game skid with a 17-10 home win over Washington to get to 4-4, but they're 2-2 at home, with wins over the football team and the Jets. The losses were significant, 23-7, to Baltimore, and, 34-24 to Vegas. Denver's defense is second only to Buffalo in points allowed, at 17.1. Dallas checks in at 23.1. Big discrepancy on offense, where the Cowboys average 32.1 and Denver, 19.6.
Dallas has won home games by 20, 8, and 22 points this season. They should win, and cover.
Coin Flip: Dallas
Prediction: Cowboys 30 Broncos 17
Coin Flip: Jacksonville
Prediction: Bills 45 Jaguars 14
Coin Flip: Miami
Prediction: Dolphins 27 Texans 17
The Saints' 36-27 win over Tampa Bay showed real grit and possibly the emergence of Trevor Siemian, who was steady but unspectacular filling in for Jameis Winston, who is likely out for the season with a torn ACL. Taysom Hill (concussion, week 5) may be available, but Sean Payton hasn't named a starter yet. The Saints may use both. In any case, they should take down their division rivals and tie the Bucs for first place in the NFC South (Tampa has a bye).
Coin Flip: New Orleans
Prediction: Saints 29 Falcons 18
The Raiders appear a real threat in the AFC West, in fact, leading the division. They overcame the departure of Jon Gruden with wins over Denver and Philadelphia. With a bye week, they should be game for the Giants. Lots to like.
Coin Flip: Las Vegas
Prediction: Raiders 26 Giants 20

New England Patriots (-4, 41) at Carolina Panthers 1:00 pm - Just in case you haven't noticed, the Patriots have won three of their last four, last week topping the Chargers in LA, to improve to 4-4. That puts the Patriots right in the playoff mix. There are seven teams in the AFC with records better than .500. Then there's New England, Cleveland, Kansas City, and Denver, all at 4-4. It's a mosh pit.
Cleveland Browns at Cincinnati Bengals (-2 1/2, 47) 1:00 pm - Losers of three of their last four, the Browns are reeling, sent to the cellar of the AFC North with a 15-10 home loss to the Steelers. Injuries have been an issue, but Cleveland now has O'Dell Beckham, Baker Mayfield, and Nick Chubb all healthy, so they have no excuses.
Denver Broncos at Dallas Cowboys (-9 1/2, 49) 1:00 pm - It's nearly 100% certain that Dak Prescott will be behind center when this one kicks off. It may not matter that much, as Cooper Rush was solid in his replacement role as the Cowboys won their sixth straight with a 20-16 victory over Minnesota.
Buffalo Bills (-14 1/2, 49) at Jacksonville Jaguars 1:00 pm - Buffalo is #1 in both points scored and allowed. The Jags are 27th in scoring, 28th in points allowed. Their only win came in London, a 23-20 win over the Dolphins, which ended a 20-game losing streak. Last week, they fell at Seattle, 31-7. So, over the past few weeks, they've been to London, back home for a bye week, off to Seattle, and back home. Are they tired as well as bad?
Houston Texans at Miami Dolphins (-6 1/2, 46) 1:00 pm - Dog game of the week pits the 1-7 Texans against the 1-7 Dolphins. The good news is the loser will likely get a higher draft pick. That's probably going to be Houston, just to make the Astros feel worse.
Atlanta Falcons at New Orleans Saints (-6, 42 1/2) 1:00 pm - Sorry, Falcons fans, but beating the Jets and Dolphins but losing to Washington and Carolina does not inspire confidence.
Las Vegas Raiders (-3, 46 1/2) at NY Giants 1:00 pm - The Giants a re kind of surging, if you count a 25-3 win over Carolina and a 20-17 loss to Kansas City as a surge. They're 2-6 and seem capable only of beating NFC South teams.
